Cars-Coffee Mustangs and Corvettes

What is it with the Mustang and Corvette owners, specifically owners of late model cars?

I was at my local C/C event this morning, which is usually attended by older sedate dudes that show some seriously cool cars (Morgans, Lotus 7, 356, Auburn, and on...) and they don't feel compelled to impress by burning rubber or revving engines. Not that their cars can't but that they just don't since its not cool for event organizers nor the shopping center that allows our presence.

I'm there for just about an hour and saw about 5 drivers with the subject cars either lay rubber or provide us all with an exhaust roar to announce their departure from the event. Have they never seen the carnage of such on the YouTube??? The Mustangs were mainly bone stock and brand new and the Corvettes were also whatever the newest model is called (C89 or whatever).

Oddly the guy in the 70's Stingray with huge blower sticking out of the hood drove off like a normal human being.

I've already sent an email to the organizer expressing my concern that if this continues either the PD or the shopping center owner and shop owners will shut us down.

BTW, the guys in question are new and not regular attendees.

Do you just walk up to them and say, "We are all more impressed by the rarity, vintage, custom" or whatever "and not by your car's ability to lay rubber" or some other trite thing? Would they even understand?

As I told the organizer, its like they just played into the cars coffee stereotype of dudes that own a particular car model that do that sort of stuff.

Sorry but I did not take any videos.

I've been "jonesing" for a new 2017 V6 Mustang for more than a year. Test drove a couple of them and they are a LOT of bang for the buck. 300hp, 280 ft. lb. of torque normally aspirated and use 87 octane fuel. That's plenty for me. Have no desire for the 4 cylinder "Ecoboom" cars or the V8 GT's. The 6 cylinder versions were definitely the "sweet spot" for me.

I negotiated with a dealer in a small town on a 6 cylinder Mustang in "Triple Tri-Coat Yellow". Stunning. They couldn't give that car away. I told them there were at least 4 reasons it was still on the lot-- A) There were probably less than 600 of them ever built and painted in that color, B) Everybody in town would know where you are, C) you aren't going to use if for the getaway car in a bank robbery and D) IF someone else with less than stellar image had a similar car and got a bad rap with the local cops, life could be really hard being "misidentified". Alas other pressing very important matters with family were occurring at the same time as the car negotiation and I didn't end up buying the car.

I'm still interested in finding one, but watching Youtube videos of the typical new Mustang owners is a real turn-off for this mid 50's white guy. Let's just say it's a culture that I want no part of. I'd probably have to get a personalized tag that reads "GRAMPS" or "OLDGUY" to attempt to separate myself from the typical culture with the local cops. Such a shame, as it is the first of the Pony cars that I would even consider from a mechanical and driving standpoint. They finally got the car right post 2014 models.

It's the "muscle car." It's always been that was since the 1950's. A Porsche isn't a muscle car, and would break if subjected to some of that stuff and would cost ten times as much to fix. So it's a completely different mindset. Those guys don't know anything though about common courtesy or respect. However, your post is like complaining about all Harley riders and loud pipes. It isn't all, just some, that give them all a bad reputation. Not defending them, they sound like jerks. Or, it's like you have a nice quiet bar you frequent and one day it gets taken over by a bunch of crazy wild Irish rugby players for the night... Ha-ha!

To quote the late Robert D. Raiford of the John Boy and Billy Radio Show fame out of the Carolinas, of which Robert was a Harley owner:

"Loud pipes suck. A mans intelligence is inversely proportional to the amount of noise his machine makes." !

Best to stick with vintage Porsches, guys. They make one part of an elite group that is superior to those who drive those other cars.

Look at the average personality type that buys a Mustang or Corvette . That should answer your question right there :-)

Now GET OFF MY LAWN!

My suggestion, lighten up. Boys will be boys.

The crappiest part of it is that the stereotype can ruin owning some really nice cars.

Good thing you've never been to a meet with Ferrari's and Ducati's.

That is a group that loves to hear the revs build and the tires scream.

Our local C&C is on Saturday in the local mega church parking lot. The local police control the entrance and have a pursuit car about a block down the one way access road you have to use to leave. Everyone is well behaved.

This thread reminds me of my favorite dumbass “lady wrecks a cobra” crash. I hope she’s at least better in bed.

I have never attended a C&C, but from what I hear these events are only for pompous pinky lifters.
