Why are they getting insane prices on 911 in UK?
School me:
The prices they are asking/getting for these cars is insane. What's the deal? |
Huge rust issues in the UK.....Salt air, damp, and not everyone has a garage...Not many old 911's left w/o importing.
|
Because they are worth it!
I am only slightly prejudiced since I own one. I will let my 85 Carrera go for 75K |
They drive on the wrong side of the road, thus RHD cars are more limited?

I do remember that when the pound was pretty strong vs USD (Not twice as expensive but similar to today 1.4-1.5) The new UK 911's were the roughly the "same" price in pounds as the price in dollars in the US. Ouch. |
There are many reasons.
Supply and demand. Rust as previously mentioned on original UK cars. Freight Tax Example,, I live in New Zealand. If I buy a $100k USD car out of the States I then have to pay $4k USD to freight it, $1k USD to insure it then when it arrives I pay Customs costs $1k USD and then Import tax of 15% of the total $106k = $16k USD making a total of $122k USD Way of the world,,, death and Taxes. Oh and if I want to make 10% profit the sale price will be $134k USD This is also the reason why you rarely see offshore cars being bought by US purchasers and one of the reason a lot of your US cars are disappearing offshore Mark |
Value of the dollar vs the pound......

Most New Porsches are sold in the US Y'all have the PCA, and the dealer network. a New Porsche is cheaper over there then here because of the sales network and the fact that there is more pressure. Maybe not the Caymans as much, but a 911 new, is more expensive in Europe.. the margin must be huge to Porsche so they can take off more in the US in Europe for instance, there is no such thing as Advertisements for Porsche. Never. it's beneath them. There is no big PCA to pressure Porsche into doing anything, each country has it's own clubs but they are not unified like PCA There is no dealer network like in the US, every dealer here, is Porsche owned. Porsche makes sure there are NO discounts I think they surgically alter the sales goons prior to putting them in a showroom. So the bigger volume is in the US it's already cheaper when new. Now the 2nd hand cars get imported, but that's a business. Few of them get bought privately in the US and then shipped over. A lot of them get bought up by cardealers, and brought back here. Obviously they wanna make a buck on top of the import taxes and costs. |
Maybe I should send my one back to the UK.

Big historic rally car scene in the UK and early 911 are very populat for that branch of motorsport, so prices for those cars have gone crazy just as they have for mark 1 and mark 2 Ford Escorts

We see it first hand. 80% of the export is done by businesses/dealers overseas. Rest are private buyers who found their dream car in the US and are having us transport it overseas.
Other cars are in the same boat, as you can see here: https://www.wcshipping.com/blog/top-10-classic-cars-exported-from-the-usa-in-2016 |
