Those are dowelling jigs used to drill mating holes in wood to align the pieces together when gluing up.
The holes are offset from the side for use with different widths of lumber and typically you would use a dowel 1/2 the width of the piece of wood. 3/8" dowel for a 3/4" thickness of lumber. The hole selected for use should be the one that is lines up with the center of the board.

Specifically, they are used to place dowel holes in lumber that will be joined at 90º. They can be used with a drill bit stop for blind dowels. People just use Kreg pocket screws now.

I assume every city had a top 40 radio station that put out lists of the top 40 (duh) songs of the week. You could pick them up at the record store, they were stacked by the cash register. May 1968

I read this and the other Felsen books when I was about 13. In those car craze days I think every kid listened to AM top 40 radio and read Henry Gregor Felson.

I read that book. Probably ten times.

(I see that the Stones Street Fightin' Man debuted at 32 on "The Mighty Wing!)

I remember those things at the place my dad used to take his Ford in for service or oil change. We walked across the street for Chinese food, get full, went back to pick up the car.

Kreg jigs are great. I bought one at the woodworking show way back in the late 80s when he would do all the shows himself. I don't think its nearly as strong as dowel construction but for face frames, you cant beat the Kreg jig or biscuits. I have an old Lemello from Switzerland bought with my hard earn blood money way back in 1987. Still have it. I laugh when some advertisement on building a table with only Kreg jig and their screws.

I will sea about digging out some of my old tool I used to collect and get you a pic. I have a pretty old Stanley cabinet scraper along with a Rabbet and a router plane. My father has some very old jewelry making tools from the 50-60s.

I built a model of the car on the cover. I pained it maroon and I assumed it was a 32 Ford phaeton. Another kid on our school bus built one too, but he assumed it was a 32 Ford roadster. Hard to tell from the picture, but the guy standing in the back made it look like a phaeton to me.
For a while there we had two important controversies to argue over on the bus - the perennial John Deere vs Farmall, and the Street Rod phaeton vs roadster. Life was so simple in those days.
Good times.

More digging through boxes of old tools of mine. I came across this one. I think I used it once, on a friend's car that had bad valve seals.
Anybody else have one?
