First IDPA match. Very cool!
As some may recall I’ve been planning and practicing to try an IDPA pistol match. Finally got there today. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f3d6087074.jpg
About 40 other people there shooting. Mostly retired as one might expect on a wed morning. Very impressed with the safety focus. There are also various procedural rules but my goal was to worry about safety rules and not get DQd. I managed that and thanks in large part to Sigs fantastic RX red dot I finished 29/42 overall. Only had two penalties over five scenarios or courses of fire. One was a ‘finger’ where I got too close to the trigger during a transition (tricky one where you go from cover to laying prone behind barrels and shooting to the left) and another for reloading outside of cover. Really can’t overstate how welcoming everyone was and how much they did to lower my stress level. Had a guy more or less shadow me throughout and point out all kinds of helpful hints. If you’re thinking about getting into action shooting but afraid to be the noob I can tell you these folks really are happy to bring new shooters into the sport. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
And the best part was I was only ‘down’ 13 points for the match! Slow but fairly accurate.

Congrats! That’s really cool stuff.

Nice. I've yet to compete in either IDPA or USPSA type match but alas, haven't found the time...

It's fun for sure.
I shoot IDPA too. It's quite funny how many mistakes can be made. We get talked through the course of fire "Two shots left of barrier, two shots right of barrier, two shots left hand only, magazine change, run forward, with finger off the trigger... and so on." phew. THEN your shooting has to be fast and accurate. Even the guys who set up the match and decide on the course of fire get their own competition wrong LOL |
First IDPA match. Very cool!
It is for sure very much a game. Somewhat reminiscent of a short but complex autocross course. Help set up, do the walk through, plan inputs at certain markers, try not to miss things....several parallels.
Not to mention you think you went fast until you hear your time! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
