Them chickens did not care for that at all. Gotta think the air was disturbed affecting lift.

Or they caught some debris...........

Dat be some lucky pigeons
Appears to be a low level guidance test with an un armed Toma.
Container doors have been removed to reduce damage to the target
Im sure they the boys and girls sank that puppy after getting the cameras off.
Great fun
I love it

Seems like a shotgun woulda been cheaper on them birds. And successfuller.

Really cool. Must have been fun for the pilot.

I was stationed on the Kidd 86-89.
Thought she was decommissioned a few years ago?

I think we talked about this before - I was on FFG-37 during Earnest Will and landed on the Kidd a few times in 1987. The H-2 Det OinC on that Kidd deployment is still a friend of mine.

Concerning the chase, this was a probably a test shot of new software, etc. in the TH and it is standard procedure on certain test ranges to have a chase aircraft. I got to chase a Penguin missile shot off of Rosey Roads in the back seat of an A-4. Lots of fun.

I was the Operational Test Director for the integration of Penguin on the SH-60B. The picture below is from the first Penguin Warhead shoot the day before. I am in the left seat.

In '87 I was the Anchorage office cost accountant for SOHIO's North Slope operations. I could see all the aircraft take off and land at Elmendorf AFB. It was a treat any day of the week. Lots of cool stuff all the time.

Best though (I ramble) was brother ran the medical complex at Dover AFB for a couple of years back then. He drove me in his car to the "edge" of the runway and I got to see C5's performing touch and go's. That was impressive. Edge was probably 300 feet but damn, them's big fixed wing aircraft.

I worked on an interface between Penquin and weapon system for some heli. Don't remember, maybe it was Westland Lynx. When the Norwegians came to check out our interface, they thought it was hilarious that our software interchanged the target co-ordinates with the launch platform co-ordinates!
