Don't remember any of this ....wonder why it suddenly stopped too. The version I saw on the news (must be true), was that "they" went searching the genealogy data for DNA patterns, and found hits on some of his distant kin....then when they had an inkling of the suspect, they took some of his garbage after he put it out, searched for his DNA on trash....matched the DNA they had. While this is awesome, if true, in this case, it also causes me concern...

He was actually fired from the Police department. It was also COPS who worked tirelessly and never gave up on the case that finally made this arrest. So maybe all cops are not bad people

A few bad apples in every profession....no doubt about it. You, and a handful of other Pelicans are the only ones who don't suck though ;). I've known a few over the years...good people they were.

Has anyone here suggested that all cops are bad people?

Of course they are not all bad people. That's a strangely defensive post. This guy was a pathological, evil murdering and raping monster and he managed to get hired by two different police departments w no trouble. That's where your concern should be, that the hiring standards are obviously seriously flawed and that so many sociopaths are attracted to police careers. We've had 4 or 5 LAPD cops arrested in the last week here. In a city this size, there are tons of bad cops. Lots. And plenty of good ones as well.

That's my question as well. Typically, the only reason these guys quit is they get caught, are put in jail for unrelated crimes, or die!

So what - he just got tired of raping and killing?

No, DNA was just starting to be used and he would have been aware of it. He was afraid of being caught and decided to stop pushing his luck.

There will be no justice in this deal, even though he will never breathe free air again. He will probably got the death penalty but not be executed and he got to live his entire life up until now as a free person. There is no amount or type of punishment that is appropriate here.

Cops, Drs, Clergy, govt officials, ice cream men, garbage men, school teachers, etc... are all people and any of them can be evil. I'm not sure that any one particular occupation tends to attract more evil people than another.

I'm saying that someone who successfully evades justice for so long, committing several different kinds of crimes, over a long period, probably has first-hand knowledge of what not to do.

Gotcha. Sorry, I misunderstood. I just get tired of the cop bashing.

Just watched a documentary on him, how they figured out all the different rapes were the same guy. This guy needs to be tortured to death.

problem is the rank and file cops do NOT reject bad people
they cover for them on most subjects rather then reporting them SmileWavy
and the few cops who do report other bad cops are ostracized by most dept's
called rats or worse by many other cops

It strikes me this guy must be a pretty high level sociopath, and he must be very intelligent to have committed so many crimes for so long. I doubt any feasible pre hire practice would detect/reject someone like this. To pull off what he did, he is likely a charismatic manipulator. I don’t know that this case is one to cite when riling shins police hiring practices.
