Buffing small scratches burl walnut
Somehow, I, ended up with two small scratches on my burl walnut trim in my BMW. I might be a bit anal, but, they bother me. Should post some pics, however, they are really small. Just wondering, what grit offsand paper I should use or if there is a compound that would work better. I, really, want get rid of them without f'ing it up worse.

Work your way from the mildest product you have until you can remove the scratches. Try mild polishing or buffing polishes first to see if they work.
I would use sandpaper as a last resort and then not go to coarse to start. |

You want to use a high quality plastic polish such as Meguire's or 3M. You are polishing the polycarbonate finish on the wood, not the wood, of course. For micro scratches of the type on all automotive trim that gets touched, these products work great. The Meguires comes in two parts, "Professional Cleaner" and "Professional Polish", I have both but just use the cleaner 98% of the time. It gets things really smooth and glossy.

Something like this, you want a product meant for lenses or clear plastic. Works great on convertible top windows and lots of other things as well:

I managed to eliminate 200K miles worth a rubbing/scratching from a ceramic coffee cup in my Lexus? Took dismantling the thing, and lots and lots of rubbing.
