Tip:check your dryer vent once in a while
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1525293272.jpg
Daughter’s house in PA,her fancy Maytag Neptune dryer wasn’t drying, she wanted to have me call a service guy. About a 0.5 cu. ft. Of lint out of the outside exhaust vent and it works just fine. |
Absolutely, those things can get caked with lint and crud and get nasty.
I hope she doesn't have a husband. |
I also bought one of those attachments for a drill that you can run through the exhaust vent and then vacuum up everything. I do it periodically.

my house is retarded in this aspect. the vent runs UP and out thru the roof. i have laid awake at night wondering how i am gonna clean that when it eventually plugs up. i know it will one day.
i'll peek up into it tonight; thanks to this thread. i'll stuff my shopvac hose up the tube. |
mine does too vash, this is what I have...

Thanks, Hugh. I do check mine every month as well as the condensation line on my AC.
While we are it - another item that needs to be checked at least every year is the cabin filter in your truck. My Silverado's is easy to get at. Filters are really inexpensive on eBay - they sell them in 2-packs in many cases. Makes a HUGE difference in cooling and air flow. |
This knocks it loose then I shopvac everything that falls out.

thanks a lot. hell, even dropping a cord thru the roof hole and pulling that brush down could work!! i like!! |
They also make one that has an attachment that hooks the shop vac up to one end of the vent. The rods were fairly flexible and worked just fine for my house. I'd have to go dig them out off the garage and measure them, I don't remember.

When the shop vac or leaf blower doesn't do the trick, I use a tow chain. Take the vent cap off the pipe on the roof and send down the chain.

GD investment bankers.
You gave her the straight of it, check it at the same time you do the smoke alarm batteries in the spring and fall with the time change |

My dad and I both clean it the same way. Stick a blower in at the wall and seal the gap with a towel. Looks like it's snowing for a couple seconds outside but gets it squeaky clean.
|
When my dad bought our house in 1976, within a month the whole house filled with smoke. Scary as s#$ for a 6 year old.
Bottom line- lint caught on fire. House survived, lint in exhaust pipe did not. Dryer did not. Underwear did not. Firetrucks at house- not as cool as one would expect. Not fun. Long exhaust lines jury rigged through basements need extra care. Caveat emptor. |
Put a lint trap in our old house, but still had to go in the attic and clear the screen that prevented animals from coming in the house
Here's a link |
Yup iv heard quite a few stories of those catching fire. I guess theyve outlawed the vinal tubing or whatever they usto use. I recall some type of plastic coated fabric. now only metal is available and for good reason
