Need some Travel Advice - Oakland to Mountain View
I bought a new car and need to go pick it up in Mountain View, CA. I'm going to take Amtrak from Fresno to Oakland.
Any advice on the best way to get from Oakland (Jack London Square) to Mountain View (about a mile from Google)? Not sure if BART goes that way or Uber or Other. Any advice would be great! Thanks |
Hopefully this helps:

Uber is the way... Though Fresno to San Jose might get you closer to Mountain View. No bridges/tolls.
|
Pricing on routes like that can sometimes be twice as much from Uber vs Lyft.

BART? interesting? Rest assured it will be "interesting" . Don't wear flops and watch where you sit.
Nice ride. Congrats. |
what day are you coming?
|
Depending on when (time and day) it is I may be able to drive you over there. I frequently have business in Mountain View
|
I'm waiting for the bank to fund my loan. If that get's done by tomorrow, I am going to pick up on Sunday. However, I have no indication that my bank is as anxious as I am.

Great! Let's have a Pelican Porsche meetup at Mountain View on Sunday!
|
I'll get a Sideshow going. See you then!

Weekdays there is ACE train - it runs from Stockton to San Jose. You could switch into it in Fremont, I suppose. From San Jose to MTV you could take Caltrain.
Public transportation is a total clusterf. here. I wish instead or in addition of dreaming up electric / robotic cars, people would work on solid public transport. G |
You could always go Greyhound
Weather should be nice for a drive, some pretty good roads in the Oakland Hills, you could check out the view from Mt Diablo if the weather is clear, it is fairly amazing. From the peak, due to the geography, you can see an astounding amount of area. Spenger's is not what it once was, I can tell you that. |
Spengers? who brought that up?
|
I just did. It used to be pretty great place for food and bloody marys on a Sunday, is why I mention it.

I am not yet sure of my Sunday schedule. Once you know if/when on Sunday, please contact me here and I will see if we can work something out.
Hope that you guys know that Mountain View has historic significance in Porsche racing history. There are two Porsche shops still there with connection to that history. There is a Porsche 935 "cube" in the foyer of one of those businesses. This car was crushed into a cube after it was crashed. Also in Mountain View one can find Fred's Place. Owned and run by a Finn fanatic racing fan. Keke was in his network back in the day. Some parts from race cars hang on the wall. Long term Porsche Racing Club sponsor, and right down the street from the aforementioned shops and location of the famous Garretson-Barbour Racing team. http://www.fredsplace.tv/ |
If you want to eat in Oakland, try Drake’s Dealership on Broadway. It used to be an old Dodge dealership and it’s pretty cool.

I doubt many of those Google employees in skinny jeans know anything about this!
