Question about Uber - can you schedule in advance

I'm catching a train on Sunday at 6am and I'm wondering if you can order an Uber in advance. I'm worried that I will order a ride a 5am and nothing is available. Although I could use the walk, I don't think I can walk that far - it would take me all night.

Yes, you can schedule an Uber X in advance. But..... the driver might not want to wake up, or might accept a better ride, etc, etc. Nothing to guarantee that you'll get the car. Best to have both Uber and Lyft on your phone and request your car with a 30 minute padding the day of your travel. You live in a large city... it won't be a problem.

Yes you can, my friend scheduled a ride for us on uber a day in advance when we needed to head to the airport at 5AM. Had no issues for the ride to the airport.

Thanks!

I ended up having a friend volunteer to pick me up and take me. Of course I promised him he can drive the new car when I get back.

What a crappy system!
I hope Uber will not be allowed to operate here ever.

We have a new vendor rising here in Hanover, "Moia". It is VW Nutzfahrzeuge testing a driver-based variable "hop-on-hop-off"-system with T6-vans. Now they get busted for second lane parking while letting the passengers getting on and off. This is only allowed for official taxi-cabs.

(sorry fo the rant)

You think only licensed taxi drivers can be responsible? I have had plenty of no-shows in the days before Uber and Lyft. This topic has been discussed ad nauseam here. I have never met anyone who would prefer a taxi over Uber or Lyft. You must have real nice taxis and drivers where you live.

I pre-schedule Uber all the time, in cities all over the country, and have never once had an issue. As a matter of fact, the drivers have almost always shown up at the front end of their guaranteed time quadrant.

^that is good!

Rick, yes, no problem with taxis here. Definitely prefer the organized, official and reliable service they provide.
And yes, the taxi drivers do this for living, it is their work. Not a hobby.

Prescheduling just sends the request for a driver at the time you select. It doesn't schedule the time you need to be picked up. Probably best to schedule it earlier than you actually need.

Ive taken taxis in sweden and in canada/US
Not much diffference between Canada and the US (drivers care more about the argument they are in on their cel phone than with the paying customer, cars are filthy/smelly and suspension is often worn out.

In Sweden, I would compare a regular cab to a limo service in the us in terms of professionalism.

Well, I got up extra early on Sunday am (4:30 am) because I did not pre-schedule an Uber and was worried I might have to call a friend at last minute.

I called/entered date in Uber at 5am and the car was at my house at 5:08 am. 8 minutes!! That's fantastic and anyone who thinks Uber is bad (but has not actually used it), it's really a great setup.

Ohh, if you are wondering why I needed to take Uber, to catch a bus to SF.......

Here's what I went to go get:

Uber can work out more expensive than taxis at peak times here in Leeds. They do at least warn you in advance of the 1.5 or double the usual fare so you can avoid booking the ride
