I would have to agree...from the perspective of a young man at the time. I remember friends saving up to buy new Camaros and Chevelles and ending up buying older ones when the new models were disappointing. My buddy saved every penny for a new Camaro Z28 and was finally ready to buy when they came out with the spec for the '74. He bought an older Chevelle 454 SS. The Chevelle was typically the favorite where I lived. No one drove a Ford or Mopar. The new body style was the joke with the folks i ran with in high school who called it "an old man's car" or "for the polyester pants crowd".

I tell you, I love and appreciate the modded "running gear" in these cars, but I just can't get past the styling.

EDIT: in particular, this last one that sammyg2 posted

Is that a stick or a manual 4-speed?

Yep, I'd have to get used to that window. It's a 4 speed muncie I believe.

fintstone 05-14-2018 01:20 PM

This is what was the primo Chevelle in my neighborhood liked like. My buddy had one in these colors.

Yeah, that's the Chevelle I like!

sammyg2 05-14-2018 01:27 PM

That's probably double the price tho.
Those weren't light but the post-72 chevelles were really heavy.
But even so that 4 speed big block car would be fun to cruise in and wouldn't break the bank.

First generation chevelle: 3,256 lb
2nd gen: 3,520 lb
3rd gen: 3,908 lubs.

Yup, the one I DON'T want is the '73!

speeder 05-14-2018 02:28 PM

Bottom line:

You're still hauling turds. :)

herr_oberst 05-14-2018 02:28 PM

I'll take "1966 with the perfect rubber rake for 20,000", Bob!

(I wonder what the car would really sell for if the condition was as good as it appears in the picture!)

911boost 05-14-2018 02:29 PM

I don't know that 64 is pretty bad looking too.

If you got the 73 you would be required to put air shocks on it and huuuuuuge back tires. It would be a requirement.

edited to correct the 65 vs 64 mistake

pwd72s 05-14-2018 02:30 PM

'64-'65 the cleanest body for my eyes...

sand_man 05-14-2018 02:32 PM

When I was looking at "muscle cars", the '70 Chevelle was on my short list.

You can ask whatever you want for something.

As Otto used to say, "I want to fk Sharon Stone and fly the Space Shuttle."

Doesn't mean it's going to happen. :)

herr_oberst 05-14-2018 02:56 PM

I'm cursed with good taste. But I don't want mine with those stupid O'ring tires....

That is so sweet.

I'll bet that 64 if modded a slight bit would be a tough looking SOB.

However after 64 they took off the side wainscot.

This is so not fair to the 73. These other Chevy's are like 250 GTO's. I mean, you know.
