My Bosche LiOn drills have been great. One is 10 years old with the original batteries. The other is 2 years old.

My 2 year old DW 18v drill has been great as well. Although I didn’t use it very much and one LiOn battery died. Wouldn’t charge up. The DW saws all and circular saw that came with it were not as impressive.

ryobi 18v the older ni-cads sucked
the li 2 amps small batterys are not a lot better but the bigger Li 4 amp ones are decent
the bigger saws circle chain or sawzall drain the batterys quickly so you need spares

one problem is the small battery if used on a lite draw like a flash light
can discharge the Li too far and it will not recharge unless jumped [see the U-tube fix]

and they doNOT like odd off label use like replacing a lead/acid on a lawnmower or e-bike
when I tryed that the batterys let the smoke out and died

any one try the newer brushless motor tools
do they have any better run time all my ryobi 18v are the older brush units

Interesting post as I too have struggled with various cordless tool brands . Way back in the day I bought the 7.2V Makita drill/flashlight combo it was very good quality and powerful for its battery size . But replacement batteries at that time were stupid expensive so about 5 years ago I bought a 12V Hitachi drill , worked fine but battery life was horrible and same deal with the batteries . Then bought a 18V Crapsman on clearance with two batteries............. I can see why Sears is in the toilet :D . Now to be fair all of these were Nicad batteries . This past Friday I was in H.D. and they were running a promotion on several Rigid brand cordless tools . I bought a drill/torque driver combo with two 18 volt 1.5 amp/hour lithium ion batteries .

But another part of the promotion is you also got two 18 volt 4.0 amp/hour lithium ion batteries as a bonus ( a 99.00 value ) . So in total FOUR batteries and the kit price was $179.00 . And the last extra is Rigid brand has a lifetime warranty which covers the tools , chargers AND the batteries !!! You have to register everything online which I have done . The electrical contractor that wired up my new man cave told me about the warranty . He said he had a switch go bad and he wore out two batteries all replaced for no charge . So I am hoping that these Rigid tools perform as advertised and any issues in the future to be taken care of . Time will tell . ;)

I got the DeWalt at Lowes on a special deal. Buy the "bare" tool and get the charger and battery free ($119 value) as well as extended warranty. But I have such a bad taste in my mouth now I'm out of the mood.

Light duty stuff is fine for my Ryobi 18v. Serious jobs I run coffee tools. Protip is mark your batteries with date bought and #them. They all look alike I have 5 and a silver marker ends the "did I get this one off the charger or that one or is it the other one?

Have Black and Decker 18V drilll driver. Came in a case with charger and 2 batteries. Any time I use it just plug in the charger and extra battery. The 1st battery usual lasts just long enough the 2nd one is charged and visa versa. No Problems.

Got some kind of set as a gift in canvas bags of 9 Dewalt 18v tools with 2 batts and charger. Would never have bought for myself. Rarely use them and not for very long when I do, but have all worked fine.

Only thing I have left that is corded hand tool wise is an 8in circular saw.

My projects have been so few and far between that I used to go buy the tool I nneded, then retruned it when done.

I could not do that, and sleep well at night...it just seems "wrong" to me. You seem like a class act and I read a LOT of your posts....while usually nodding my head in agreement....but not this one ;)

I use the Ryobi cordless all the time. Just added router and sander for convenience.

Binding or dull blade a possibility? Once the blade binds, it kicks off the overload. Sharp blade will cut 20+ studs.

^^^ Good advice! I have a bunch of the Ryobi 18v Lithium power tool and two batteries and that is all I need for the level of projects I typically take on.

But agree on getting new blade for your circular saw. For my larger terracing project I used my corded saw and did get a new blade and it was well worth it for how well the saw performed.

I took steel wool and some oil to the sides of the lumpy rusty hand saw.
It probably has less drag now.

Outside of major project, I basically charge them twice a year. I have 4 batteries, and can charge two as I use two. Works great for high-load projects (like driving lag screws).

I have the same set. Impact wrench, driver, sawzall, and circular saw. Really the circular saw is the only one that doesn't measure up to the corded version. If I have more than a few 2x cuts to make I'll break out the mitre saw or corded circular saw.

No Pollen alergy. Actually done the tool return thing twice. Was told to do it by the local Home Depot rental guy. After I returned them, they somehow became available for rent. First rent on a new tool free?

I have a diablo blade like that on my circular saw and it goes through 2x4s like a hot knife through butter.
Love it.

I recently bought as ryobi air compressor to fill tires and such.
it works, sort of.
If you tried to fill a real tire with it, you'd have a race to see if the battery died before the compressor went up in flames.

It works fine if you have 15 seconds to raise the pressure in a tire a couple PSI but that's all I would ever ask from it.
Any more than that and it'll get really hot.
I know, what do i expect for 20 bux?

No such thing.

I looked at those handheld air compressors and decided to pass....for now anyway.

The corded garage unit still works just fine. A little cumbersome to drag around but at some point you have to draw the line at duplicating power tools.

I could really use a "shop"!

Soon after I bought that hand-held compressor I bought and installed this, hooked up to the full-sized compressor.
now i can fill up tires or pool floats or whatever as long as they are closer than 50 feet away. well worth it.

For those who use a 20v Dewalt tools, Lowes is running a promo on their brushless ($$$) angle grinder. "While supplies last", you'll get a free 6 Ah battery (about $149) when you buy their grinder ($159). I wasn't sure how the promo would run so I picked up both this morning.
