Free Wood

With the price of lumber going up, I figured I'd start a thread guaranteed to generate some wood, free of charge. ;)

The eighth-gen Corvette is expected to enter production powered by the pushrod 6.2-liter V-8 engine that powers the current car. Later on, we expect a twin-cam 5.5-liter V-8 with a flat-plane crankshaft and close to 600 horsepower to find its way into the engine bay.

I think I'd like a Vette with the motor right behind me. I do not believe the future twin cam part. GM has perfected pushrod motors. Why screw that up ?

The body work and paint job are terrible.

It'll be interesting to see how the 'Vette faithful react. Maybe find it great? Maybe reject it like the Harley crowd rejected the model with the Porsche designed twin?

GM taking one hell of a risk.

I wondered how long they went before finally going to a flat plane crank engine. Much more revs, exotic sounds, possability of much more power easily.

I haven't been thrilled with new Corvettes for a long time, i'll hold judgement on this one until I can see an unshrowded example up close (Detroit auto show ?).

Here's hoping they copied a Ferrari when they designed the bodywork. I hate the C7, if they continue down that path I'm going to hate this one too. The steering wheel sounds like a really bad idea.

The new engine would be welcome. Everybody else has had modern valve train for 30 years. It should make the engine a lot better sounding, the Chevy small block wasn't the greatest sounding engine of that layout.

I'm a couple of miles from the assembly plant and was talking to a contractor who's been working on the new C8 line for a year. Lots of delays and he is now going to be there through the end of the year. He said there was a major fire at a supplier and the current production is now behind schedule as well which is making things worse. They've suspended tours of the plant until sometime in 2019.

GM has been using a Carrera S as a benchmark car for the C8.

Porsche perfected air-cooled motors.

Erhm, have you seen what Ferrari has been up to?

The C7 is far more handsome than the competing current front engine car from Ferrari.

Ferrari has taken a new direction in styling, I do not fault them for it; but I also do not find it appealing. I suppose regulation + lap times are driving it.

The pretty machine on the market right now is the Viper.

I wasn't comparing the C7 to a front-engine Ferrari, I was hoping that Chevy had learned a little bit about what Ferrari had done in the last couple of rear engine cars. I happen to think the C7 Corvette is a turd; it's far too angular and the detailing is ridiculous. Plus, it's been years and years since the Corvette had anything other than a ridiculously ugly ass end.
