The Simpsons

The Simpsons has been on the air for 29 years and last night a buddy said he has never seen it.

He was complaining about a sore lower back and I offered to go get a garbage can from outside and give him a Homer adjustment. Everyone else laughed.

He said " My wife saw it and decided it wasn't worth watching". So he has never watched it.

I find that extremely strange based on how much of the Simpsons has entered popular vernacular.

But his wife is that controlling so I can see it happening.

The Simpsons have been very perceptive about what's going on or about to "go on".

Your buddy has missed out on a lot of funny schit!

I stopped watching around season 5 or so (and I think even then I was just catching the Treehouse of Terror eps), and I don't think I've heard anyone mention the Simpsons in the 24 years since, except to note that it's still on or that they've lost another member of the original cast. In all that time, no one's said "You missed a great episode of the Simpsons last Sunday" even once.

KFC911 05-19-2018 04:20 AM

I reckon I've watched at least 4, mebbe even 5 episodes over the years.....DOH ;).

black73 05-19-2018 04:23 AM

I have never watched. I think it's extremely strange that you think that it's extremely strange that your friend never watched either. SmileWavy

Phil Hartman was the best.

It was a great show and probably still is, I haven't watched it in over 15 years but it spawned some catch phrases and Matt Groening is a genius.

I bet his friend would be absolutely shocked at the list of iconic movies over the past 4 decades that I've never seen too. All of them, or none of them....don't know quite how to phrase it :)

wildthing 05-19-2018 08:25 AM

There will always be that guy...

Jims5543 05-19-2018 09:09 AM

I had it on this morning. I noticed whatever channel had it on was running every single episode ever in order.

I do not watch it like I used to, my kid will throw it on from time to time.

I like Family Guy better.

My older son keeps telling me to check out Rick and Morty I saw part of one episode while in a hotel room one night and it was really funny. Really sick humor.

scottmandue 05-19-2018 10:24 AM

I watched it for a few seasons but fell off watching... any TV series seems to get stale after a few years.

Tried family guy but didn't like it.

Tried south park and it is very funny but the potty humor is just too much for me.

Kinda funny how Simpsons and South Park both started as comedy shorts and now are considers to be American culture.

Has anyone watched 'final space'? I believe it is available on youtube.

I've tried to watch but it's not for me.

stevej37 05-19-2018 10:29 AM

I've never watched a full episode.
Tried..but not enough to keep my interest.

dad911 05-19-2018 12:51 PM

If it's on I'll watch, but don't go out of my way.

Prefer Family Guy, Stewie and Brian are funny.

Crowbob 05-19-2018 01:05 PM

The Simpsons is still on?

DOH!

The voice for Marge (Julie Kavner) has (had?) a summer place just down the road from me. I was at a nursery specializing in rare and outstanding perennial flowers when the owner/friend informed me that the lady who just left was Marge Simpson.

kach22i 05-19-2018 01:37 PM

The Simpsons will do in a pinch, I'm more of an American Dad guy.

Clip on opening topic.

I wish that I could watch Archer more often.

rattlsnak 05-19-2018 01:44 PM

I watched the first 15 years or so religiously every Sunday and now if I'm flipping through channels, I will always stop and watch it. Still love it, but have a lot more going on now. But Yes to Family Guy!! I also like Bob's Burgers too...

scottmandue 05-19-2018 02:45 PM

Racerbvd 05-19-2018 02:49 PM

Watched it when it first came out haven't seen it in years.

Tobra 05-19-2018 07:44 PM

I like the Simpsons, though I think Futurama is better. I usually make my own decisions on what I want to watch.

CurtEgerer 05-20-2018 04:48 AM

In 29 years, I've maybe seen 4-5 episodes. I tend to spend my cartoon money on Bugs Bunny.

It's been on for 30 years - most of the original audience is middle-aged guys. Heck, creator Matt Groening is 64.

yellowperil 05-20-2018 09:56 AM

It's Homer's show really.

He's the safety coordinator or something like that, at the nuclear plant. Keeps a full bucket of water to dump on his computer when all the red lights start flashing. It seems to work.

Mr Burns told him (when he missed work on Thurs)" if you're not here Friday, don't bother coming in on Monday" .... "Woo Hoo a four day weekend"

Anytime someone gets me to open a too tight jar, I always say "You softened it up
for me sir"

It had a lot of celebs practically begging to get a cameo with Homer.

Best episode... When the elder Pres Bush moved in next door, then when Homer drove him mad, he got along much better with Gerald Ford though.

Just thought I'd give you who haven't seen it what you might have missed or not
IMO I always found it funny, and Bugs Bunny too!

McLovin 05-20-2018 08:22 PM

The heyday of the Simpsons was some of the best written tv ever. But the show became a shell of itself after the first seven or eight years.

Good history for simpsons fans

I'll stick with Andy Griffith in black and white, Bugs Bunny, the Road Runner, and of course....the Three Stooges...the golden age :)
