It's IPA time!

Summer is here..time to stock the fridge with IPA's.
My favorite is Bell's Two Hearted Ale.
Lately, the Sierra Nevada Tropical Torpedo is making a push for the top.
Which ones are your favorites?

Founder's Brewing Company All Day IPA (Grand Rapids, MI) with Stormcloud Brewing Company's Whiled Away IPA (Frankfort, MI) in close pursuit.

Founders is GREAT! I sold my motorcycle to a guy from Grand Rapids and told him part of the price was a 6 pack of Breakfast Stout for Mrs WD and six of their IPA for me.

I like Two Hearted. Also Stone and Avery. Ranger is fine for something tasty but thinner.

They stopped selling Ranger here. I miss it. The upside is I discovered All Day.

Crowbob 05-19-2018 10:59 AM

No, not sure. But I can't find VooDoo, either. Maybe because I stopped looking for it.

Racer 5 = good stuff. Especially when you can find it on tap.

Tobra 05-19-2018 11:58 AM

It is always IPA time. There are so many excellent ones out there.

Sixpoint Resin IPA is very good and one of my favorites.

^^^ I've looked in FL for IPA's when there....never seen that one.

My area is over-saturated with golf courses and one of the casualties was transformed into a hop farm. Hundreds of acres of posts all lined up covering the rolling countryside.

$6m worth of posts.

Two Hearted is one of my favorites. If you like Tropical Torpedo try Kona Hanalei Island IPA, it’s another tropical IPA that’s not crazy fruity. Boulevard Tropical Pale is similar and also good. I think Bell’s Oberon is technically a pale but it has some hoppiness and is also delicious, I have it on tap right now and it’s a great summer beer.

40 Mile IPA from Three Notch'd (Charlottesville, VA)
Loose Cannon (IPA)
Slightly lighter tasting Americannon (Pale Ale), both from Heavy Seas Brewing, Baltimore

60 is one of my favorites too.

I have two four packs of 120 aging in my beer fridge 4 of them just hit the 1 year mark and are getting good. I had 6 of those and opened 2 up after the 1 year mark it is remarkable how much better they get as they age.

I belong to a mug club at a local sports bar, the mug is 24 oz and I can get 90 Minute on tap there for $5 a mug. :D

Aged IPA?

Usually I let my IPA age about 30 seconds for the first one. The last one is about two weeks old. I can't determine any difference in their flavor.

Only the 120 Minute IPA needs to be aged in the bottle. Trust me I have had one right when I bought it and then let some sit (per recommendation from friend) and the difference is dramatic. The aged one is much much smoother even with the alcohol being over 12%.

It say so on the bottle too, this one is 1 year old and is getting good.

Sometimes I like monster IPA's. This is one you have to look for I think Total Wine carries it.
