Indy quali

on right now, kinda caught me by surprise, most times almost as good or better than the race.

kach22i 05-19-2018 12:32 PM

Beautiful cars this year, I'm catching the last 1/2 hour right now.

Por_sha911 05-19-2018 03:01 PM

I know its good for selling ads and tickets but I wish they stuck with the more traditional Indy qualifying. To think that you qualified 9th today and may be on pole after tomorrow doesn't seem right.

I would love to see spiderman get his 4th. It would really burn Roger for not letting him have a full time ride this year. Also, it sux that Hinch won't be in the show this year but that's racing.

astrochex 05-19-2018 03:04 PM

Danica made the top 9.

Chevies are looking fast.

strupgolf 05-19-2018 06:57 PM

Please get rid of Cheever and Goodyear. Both are old and ran when everything was different. It's like having Rod Laver do Wimbeldon today, they just don't get it.Cheever said today " Pippa ran wide open the entire time",yea, dumb f**k, they all run wide open the entire run.

astrochex 05-20-2018 04:02 AM

NBC will be broadcasting the 500 next year. ABC is broadcasting 5 races this year.

The cars ARE beautiful, and check out the rear wing, just about non-existent.

svandamme 05-20-2018 09:04 AM

The whole rear is a wing system not pretty if you ask me.

Amazing that Hinch didn’t make it. But, knowing Hinch he’ll turn lemons into lemonade. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him as part of the broadcast team, either roving the pits or in the booth. Would love to see Spiderman get his fourth, and would also love to see Dixon turn his season around.
The Indy circus is headed back to Portland this year after a long hiatus. Should be great.

Eddie Cheever is very intelligent but not particularly a people's person. He does OK announcing but I think he's had a ton of coaching. Same goes for Scott although I think he was always more personable.

So you think Allen Bestwick is good to stay? He's good in my book but he's not the motorhead that the other two cats are. I mean he may still call college football games and he's hosted TV racing talk shows. Has a lot of radio experience as well so he's a pro announcer while the other two are the 'experts'.

You know who the best in the booth ever was? Tom Sneva. This guy told it like it was every time insulting slow and risky drivers while at the microphone. And he knew the racing side of the business like no other. He was apparently sacked because he wouldn't tone it down.

Eddie Cheever does seem to be cast somewhat from the same mold and I like him. Didn't always.

They should bring Paul Tracy back.

Tracy is on NBC. He is immortal for his Marco as uber driver quip.

Scott Douglas 05-20-2018 05:25 PM

If their car isn't handling, they lift, so no, they don't all go around without lifting.

Really sad that Pippa's try kept Hinch from getting another chance to get in.

I was surprised at the number of driver's that were only using 5th gear and not getting into 6th.

6th is only there for an additional 250 RPM's should they pick up a tail wind and hit the limiter. Many did qualify using 4th as top gear.

And to the comment about lifting, yes, many did if only 5% in one corner. You don't get up in the grid doing that but you might be able to bring a car back to the pits unscathed and in the show.

Agreed. I recently quoted him saying if Marco wasn't an Andretti...
He had to apologize for that one but it was worth it. As a rule, Marco needs to be given the chrome horn out of the field of drivers.

Obviously, the hater didn't know that

If they have too much downforce to offset poor balance then they have to stay in 5th to have enough power to push the car around. Without the extra downforce you have a loose condition and either burn your tires or end up in the wall. Ed Carpenter had perfect balance hence, top speed and pole position. Helio guessed wrong on the downforce and couldn't get the car to go fast enough even when he had the foot glued to the floor.

Hinch can't blame Pippa for wanting to try to get into the show. He has to blame himself for having a poor first run.
Hinch has been in the booth before and did well. Cheever is a brilliant man. All the announcers have to dumb things down for the general public who don't understand over-steer versus under-steer.
