You won't like nibbling stainless steel, especially if its of any decent thickness.

I Googled "outdoor wok stands" and there are a bunch of them. Lots of them come with a burner, which might orphan your turkey cooker thing (sorry) but you'll end up with a better outcome for the money. I do a fair bit of metal fab and the only metal I hate working with more than stainless steel is titanium...

Punch a few keyboard keys and sit back with a beer, while you await the big brown truck.

Ciao,
JR

Take it to a sheet metal place and be done with it.

Easier said than done. Around here walking into a SMS with a home project is like walking into a brick wall. And if they do it, you can pick it up in a week or 2. $75/hr. shop rate and they will find an hour in any project.

I agree with Craig on this one, have it done at a local sheet metal shop, Vash. It will save you lots money just in bandages. If you were closer, I loan you my dirty nibbler. I haven't used it in so long, I wonder if it still works or know exactly where it is.

For the win!

Presuming this is for your Wok I like the idea of just buying something pre-made.

I know we are all handy-men and like building stuff but sometimes it is faster/cheaper/easier to buy something purpose built.

If you wanted a grandfather clock you wouldn't try to build one yourself would you?

Or would you?

for a hole that big especially in stainless which is hard to cut with a saw I would definately go with a grinder. 4.5" with cut off wheel. hold it at an angle to cut the circle. It would be the quickest and neatest way for me but if you are not skilled with a grinder a jig saw might be the better. Just make sure you protect the surface very well so it doesnt get all beat up.

feeling alittle bit more optimistic. they make (expensive) jig saw blade just for cutting stainless steel.

When cutting medals with a saw blade, the general idea is that you want to keep at least two teeth engaged in the cut at all times. With thin metal thicknesses such as that, that's a little difficult to do...

The last time I cut thin stainless with a jigsaw blade, I used blades that were impregnated with little chunks of carbide. The area of the cut got red hot.

I still think that I would buy something with the hole already cut in it and designed for the purpose, but that's just me... I have enough crap on my to do list without adding to it, perhaps your life is not as cluttered as mine.

Good luck with whatever you do.

You are in for a treat. I remember the first time I saw one in action. Up to that point I had only been experienced with a Oxyacetylene Cutting torch, I had used one in Welding class.

When I took a job as a drafter at an industrial pump company, I was able to see a plasma cutter in action in the shop. Blew my mind!!

The welder was cutting a 2" thick steel deck plate with it and it was cutting it like it was a hot knife through butter. I could not comprehend how it was even doing that. What I was seeing did not make sense.
