last night the winds were WHIPPING!! NorCalifornia
it was wild.
this morning my yard is filled with leaves. i swear, my neighbors homes are clear because this weird vortex is at my house and it gets all the leaves. i'll be clearing for days. TREES: down everywhere. power outages. nuts. a giant Eucalyptus came down at our office. missed all the cars.

It was mentioned on our morning news today (in MI)
They also talked about how the fires are spreading worse. (because of the wind?)

I was surprised when the morning news announced 70 to 100 mph winds possible in NoCal. Hang onto something solid. We're scheduled for some winds in the area, but nothing moving where we live.

Yeah, that OC fire is east of Irvine and spreading fast.
We are lucky enough to get some of the smoke. Oh joy. Ventusky web site is showing wind speeds out there of 40mph.

News blurb just said the fire is already up to 2k acres. EDIT - Fire authority has down graded it to 500 acres, not the earlier 2k.
That thing is exploding.

one of my job projects is to repair some burned out retaining walls along Highway 1. the fire was two months ago?
the winds from the previous night.. they were so great, they whipped up the already burned out areas, and found glowing embers -hotspots and started new fires. apparently this is common, so Calfire already had a team out there. they stomped them out quick. not much left to burn. but it was eyeopening to see that stumps and logs stay hot for a very long time. i'll pay special attention and totally flood my future campfires.
