First world problems, Friday edition

I just redid my W4 forms because I was leaving too much money in the hands of the government. My first new, bigger paycheck just arrived in my hands. :D

Turns out that it's now more that my bank will let me deposit using the cell phone camera and app, so I need to go to the bank ATM to deposit them from now on.

I know, it's really a third world problem because who still actually gets a paper paycheck each time, but whatever.

GH85Carrera 06-01-2018 07:34 AM

Yea, it is tough.

We get large checks for large projects for my company. I have not asked what my bank's limit is for mobile deposits. For the little checks I just do a mobile deposit. I have seen it take 48 hours before they decide to give me access to those funds. For a $600 no big deal. For the big checks I drive the 3 whole blocks to the bank and hand it to a teller. The full check is instantly in my account. I don't understand the reason for the difference.

Your employer can't do direct deposit?

legion 06-01-2018 07:52 AM

Have your employer cut me a check for whatever the excess is over the deposit limit. Problem solved.

I enjoy going to the bank.

I give the tellers atomic fireballs with my banking documents.

And once in a while I'll buy them a small flower bouquet from the store next door.

You can only do so much over the phone......

You are weird! :p

OK, maybe I am the weird one. One of my goals is to never ever NEED to go into a brick and mortar bank again. Of course I feel the same way about doctors offices, furniture stores and especially the post office and even my credit union.

Ask for a small paycut to get your checks back below the limit. Problem solved! You can thank me later. ;)

No, Baz is super cool. Ok, he’s weird too, but that’s why he’s super cool. One of these days I hope to find myself in NSB where I can look him up for a beer.

Yeah, I have no desire to go to any bank if I don’t need to which is funny since I work for one of the big ones, but I do all (99.99%) of my banking through a credit union.

I don't mind the friendly interaction in a bank or post office....it's just the issue if I have to wait on some idiot ahead of me that irks me, and finding a parking spot.

pwd72s 06-01-2018 09:34 AM

Hey, I LIKE going to the bank, making deposits. After I'd broken up with a girlfriend back in '73, I noticed that my bank had hired a new cute brunette freckle faced teller. We'll have been married 43 years come June 27th. ;)

WTF are you talking about?!? Video or it didn't happen!

OK, I kid, yeah, some of them are nice. It's just the line waiting to get to them that makes you forget it.

I like to people watch. Always some interesting people waiting and some of the interactions between the post office folks and the customers are quite entertaining. I have not yet got to the point of visiting Wallmart at 2AM but some day.........

We have three post offices in my town, one in a very cool old building built in 1935 (marble, stone, and brass) but unfortunately the homeless camp out in the park across the street so you have to run the gauntlet to get in the building.
Second is on the old Army (now air force) base that opens to the street so non-military folks can use it.
Third is a small P.O. run by volunteers, I go there whenever possible.

RE:Banks, I have direct deposit and do 90% online... we do have a account at a brick and mortar in case we have to do face to face transactions.

Maybe - but my favourite addage is "I take care of those who take care of me."

I've been there - I remember growing up when someone took a moment to make me feel special or simply acknowledge my assistance with something.

Feels good to pay it forward once in a while. Probably helps me more than it helps them. :p

Would love to do that one day, Steve. You're one of my favourite people. SmileWavy

Oh the trolling one can do at at times....all in good fun, of course. I was at Walmart yesterday and one of the cashiers is from South Africa and we had a chat about Shaun Tomson and the surf breaks in Durban where she's from. She knew all about the Gunston 500 too. I love the SA accent too - it's very cool to hear.

Whenever I see someone working there whom I recognize I always say "There he is!" or "There she is!" Always brings out a smile.

You can't do this stuff over the Internet....;)

jhynesrockmtn 06-01-2018 12:30 PM

I have 3 bank accounts for various reasons and 3 apps for remote deposit via app. When the last one started out with a deposit amount limit below what was used to I went into the branch, complained, and it was changed on the spot.

GH85Carrera 06-01-2018 12:42 PM

I always seem to get in line behind someone wanting to cash a check from a another country, or wanting to go over the last year of bank statements to find the 3 cent error.

Exactly^^^^. I don't begrudge the bank teller, or window agent at the post office, it's the morons in line in front of me that annoy me, and the morons that have already came and gone, that has ruined the customer service person's attitude.

vash 06-01-2018 02:00 PM

i am so sad i dont even know what the upper limit is :(

WPOZZZ 06-01-2018 02:20 PM

When I take my checks to the bank, the teller checks all three signatures on the check before they deposit it.

911boost 06-01-2018 02:25 PM

When I take my checks to the bank the teller asks me to take her home with me.

Or not.

It sounded good in my mind.

sammyg2 06-02-2018 11:36 AM

I haven't seen the inside of a bank in a long time.
Haven't written a check in decades either. Prolly wouldn't remember how.
