Intermittent text between iPhone and Android
I occasionally don't get texts sent to my Android sent by an iPhone.
At first it was no big deal because my brother who texts me about once a year was the only person I interacted with was/is on a iPhone. But now that my wife and Dr. are on iPhone's the situation has escalated. Anything I can do to make texting more reliable? |
Get an iPhone? ;)

It's not just Android phones that do this. My family has every kind of phone imaginable and iphone to iphone texts are received instantaneous (mostly but newer to older can sometimes take a few minutes). Flip phone to flip phone, instant. Android to Android, instant. But mix them up and they can get mixed up sometimes. To the point that at Christmas we were talking about this and my sister sent a text to all of us at the same time in a group text. It took about 2 hours for all of us to get the text except my brother. He got his text the next morning on his flip phone. Even though we were all in the same room just feet from each other.
It makes no sense but we're all on Verizon and have complained about it to them. No one seems to know anything about it and no one cares except to say 'you've got an upgrade you can use, how about a new phone?'. This has been going on for years and no new phone has fixed the issue. We now just deal with it because it's not worth all of us buying iphones to 'fix' the issue. |
Apple to Apple is usually great because everything apple will try to use "iMessage" which goes via IP (data-Internet) vs cell (SMS).
When my wife sends group texts to family with pics of the grandkid or whatever, it's often an issue because there's a few folks that don't use iphones. Actually, there were more, but we are now down to just 1. We keep whittling away at the non-Apple folks. I used to be an Android fan, but I've been converted. These days Apple vs Android is like Canon vs Nikon and Camaro vs Mustang. It's always a "thing" because they are generally so well matched, but when you take into consideration the interoperability of all of the Apple universe, that's the new "feature" that Apple has that causes it to win out over Android. And you can't even argue "Apple steals my info" because Android is Google who also steals your info. Either way you're screwed unless you're Paul and you're sporting a flip phone in your Bullit center console. :D |

We got my then 79 year old mother in law a iPhone and a few weeks later an iPad. She has admitted that her iPad is something she really loves. Since they both operate the same she is good at using them. She has read hundreds of books from the library on the iPad and she uses it constantly.
He great grand kids all think it is so cool that great grandma has an iPad, and she knows how to use it. They are all old enough to text her all the time. She uses her iPad to do most of her texting. My wife is even more attached to the iPad. That is handy because she can play tech support for her mom. |
