We were thinking of one for my father in law.... problems are, you are in it while filling (have to regulate temps) and in it while draining(cold, time). Salesman talked us out of it.

A relative got one for disability purposes.

I'm not 'disabled' but even I can't get into it easily.
Step over rail, severe squeeze and turn in cramped area with no room, nothing to hold yourself with, etc.
It must be difficult for elderly, overweight, and those without strength.

A better option is a walk-in shower with a sturdy chair, lots of handholds, and perhaps big enough for a wheelchair.

If your budget allows, curb less showers is the way to go with an additional hand shower hanging near the seat. We have done a few of those for our retired clients, This way the help can get in it too and much safer to get around in.

That makes sense look. Those tubs are not cheap, I suspect a curbless shower isn't alot more money?

One thing I don't like about small tile flooring is that it's either slippery or difficult to keep clean.
Every extra grout line is a slow leak vulnerability.
More edges = More things to stub the toes on.

Ceramic tile in general is hard as concrete/ice with any slip-n-fall situation.
I wish there was something opposite to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Non-Newtonian_fluid

Interesting topic.
If you put a frog in a pot and bring the water to boil, the frog won't jump out. Drop a frog into boiling water and it will jump out.
One of my former students had voiced his opinion when when I was considering installing one of these tubs at my parents house.

Looking for an accessible house after taking in my brother with MS. One had a room that had a roll in shower. Also a sink you could roll a wheel chair under. Would have been great, but the rest of the house sucked.

The house we got that worked out great had a narrow bathroom we put hand rails in, and a removeable seat in the regular tub/shower. the big plus was the halls were wide and the doors were roll in including front and back.

You have to sit there while it fills up and drains, right?

Yes.
This is when people who do not have scald safe fixtures in the tub are at risk of being burned, when the tub is filling.
It is also when people can get chilled. Waiting for the water to drain away.
I ended up not installing one for my parents.
