I called out a six year old!
And it was fun, but I'm not proud.
Basically- long week. Took family to mexican joint after said long week. My daughter- PIA. My wife responding to daughter- not much better. Over the next booth, some 6 year old kept looking over condescendingly over the back of the booth chair. At first, I was just plain embarrassed. After a hard week, my family was such a complete wreck that they were fodder for a 6 year old to judge upon. Well... after about 30 minutes of this, trying to calm my daughter, and calm my wife, I snapped and had enough..not only of both of them, but the kid snearing across the booth. I looked at the kid, snapped my fingers, and said (something like) "enough-turn around" What happened was priceless and unexpected- the family shrunk and shunned their kid. The military dad with the thick neck shrunk in his chair and withered. The mom chastised the daughter. Her kid (and her sister) got kicked out of the table and were subjected to running down the hall of the restaurant to blow off steam. The dad (who I hadn't even noticed) could have broken me like a matchstick, but he didn't. He caved. Quite frankly- that felt good. I wasn't too proud of my family's behavior, but pulling that stunt made me an immediate Al Bundy. I nominate myself for white trash dad of the year. I wish my life was perfect, but it's not. So watch out 6 year olds- you are on notice. (self pat on the back)... Thanks Peg!!! |
"I was in this Mexican joint with my family....my PITA daughter was making faces again at another family who were clearly having some issues. Finally the father put my daughter in her place with a snap of his finger. Damn....I was so embarrassed.....I owe that other father a drink one day...."

Sometimes, regardless of circumstance, its necessary for someone to call the meeting to order.

How low does one's self esteem have to be to be condescended to by a six year old? Parental issues on the part of the kid for sure. But I'd say not handled well by the "victim." |
Bully.

Feel free to yell at my kids anytime they deserve it.:)

Little bastard shot me in the ass.

This sounds like a thread that I would post:)
Being a middle aged family man is a beach sometimes. There are days where the pressure cooker is ready to blow at any second. We're all human , imperfections and all |

Yesterday wife emails me "I think I lost my credit card, going into the bank to get a replacement." Later in the day, "can you pick up pizza on the way home for dinner?" I call in the pizza as I leave work... traffic jam but I know they will keep it warm for us. Pull into the pizza place and pull out my card... "sorry sir cash only" and he points to a ATM machine in the corner (straw #1, you can have a ATM machine but can't take CC?) ATM want $2.50 but I want to get home so okay the deal... ATM says "sorry no can do" (straw #2) I realized there is a BofA a block away so hop in my car. Friday night, line at the ATM  Get to the ATM "sorry, cannot process your transaction" (straw #3) I'm tired and hungry and start cursing the ATM and slap it... all in front of the line at the ATM =embarrassed Then it dawned on me... lost card=frozen account... I call my wife "oh yeah, sorry"... pause... "I have $20 see if they can deliver?" So... why didn't we just have it delivered in the first place? |
^^ Ha ha...LMAO Scott......
I was heading to some good friends' house and was going to bring pizza. There's a Dominos right around the corner. Want to bring hot pizza right so I'll pick it up on the way. Went to their website and placed an online order. Two large 2 topping pies at takeout special $5.99 ea. Cool. Get there 10 minutes before scheduled time for pick up and the delivery guy is coming in right behind me and asks if he can help. Checks my order and tells me my pies are just finishing up. But wait....the one with Pep and Blk Olives only has Pep. Oops.....OK sir....we'll get another made for you that's correct. It only took another 5 minutes for the correct pie to be made. They gave me the incorrect one and a choice of 2 liter beverage for my inconvenience. I walked out with 3 pies and a 2 liter Coke all for around $13. And the pizza was hot delicious. Sometimes it just works out..... |

Sounds like something my wife would do. That and go to Target every day. |
Daughter long grown and gone. This thread reminds me to be thankful for that. When dining out, Cindy & I often choose bar seating over family seating. Loud drunks are kinder to our ears than screaming kids.

I read it a couple of times thinking I missed something.
Was the real problem in the next booth, or in your own? |
I think the six-year old was the smart one here.
She probably began to realize that the next words from Leaky to Mrs. and fille Seals was going to be "Here's Johnny" and she wanted to have time to give fair warning to her family! (And, Leaky, we've all been there! There was once the incident where my GF at the time was begging the waitress to bring me a muffin because my blood sugar was dangerously low!) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1527971429.jpg |

Speaking to my wife today- she was not happy about my behavior last night either, but for the sake of full disclosure, she was unaware of any of it until I told her later last night well after the event. As for Jack Torrance- The Shining is one of my favorites. Last night was a level one "Married with children" Al Bundy level of trashy behavior on my part. Jack Torrance occurs after a REALLY BAD WEEK!!!! (I'm still trying to meddle though the newer "Dr. Sleep" with Danny Torrance). Edit- last night when I stupidly made this post I considered using the phrase "and I corrected the family"- and then corrected the sneering kid peering over the booth." Oh well~ :) |
I don't know which is worse, calling out a six year old or coming to OT to confess. SmileWavy
I probably would have made eye contact and given the six year old the 'Here's Johnny' crazy eye look early on and avoided the verbal confrontation. |
I have "family envy" now/then regarding my brother having a family and now older children that can look after him now that he's in a wheelchair.
. But I'm more often happy that I had no children. |
