1984 Cadillac lost trunk key

What options do I have? I just got the car and have an ignition key but misplaced the trunk key. What can I do ? Can a good lock smith help me?

There’s a body in there isn’t there? Call Mr. Wolf.

Pretty sure you can remove the back seat, and get access to the lock area

Or just hit the power trunk release button in the glove compartment. Any locksmith should be able to make you a key either from the door handle or by removing the trunk lock and handing it to him or her.

Power trunk button in glove box inoperable. Even when car is powered up.

I expect that even a mediocre locksmith can help you.

GM locks of that era had about 10,000 combinations, meaning that they produced millions of vehicles with the same key every year. It is child’s play for a locksmith or dealer to get you a new key that fits. Just call you dealer. He’ll know what information to ask for and he’ll get you a matching key. You can always re-key the lock if you have to.

I went to a locksmith to have a key made for an 80’s Mazda RX7 hatch. He started with a blank in a vice grip and wiggled it back and forth. Pulled it out and filed it. Did this several times and I had a key made in minutes.

It just takes a little practice. ;)

What does it smell like? Dead bodies and high dollar weed can smell surprisingly similar.

At least that's what I've heard.

Does the glove box have a lock? Would the key be the same?

I'd start with this, unless you're in a rush. I don't know if a Cadillac dealer can produce a key code for a 1984 or not, but worth a try. You'll probably have to prove you own the car.

I worked as a Cadillac tech.

You pull out the back seat & use a long ratchet extension.

It's real easy.

It cannot be picked because it is a "side lock" cylinder. Anyone have any luck drilling one out and replacing it? Too old to be in the database.

fastfredracing 06-15-2018 04:52 AM

No luck through the back seat yet?

dennis in se pa 06-15-2018 06:38 AM

Guess what? I am too old and inflexible to try the backseat approach. But I found my keys!!! I put them in a place where I knew I could find them! Got plenty of extras now.

1984 Caddy and too inflexible to go in through the back seat, dude, how old are you anyway?

He still owns an '84 Caddy, that should answer your question. ;)
