Excellence in Hillbilly engineering (Illustrated)
As a counterpoint to Shaun's "Cure for Happiness" thread, in which he takes great pains to lavish a classic automobile with a no expense spared, no time constraints restoration, I offer a "Git 'er done before it rains' approach to butchering a classic Dearborn 10-8 plow so I can use it with my Kubota tractor.
![]() Yer basic 60 year old Dearborn (Ford) model 10-8 two bottom plow made for a 23hp Ford. The problem is it's too heavy and the front beam sticks too far forward to use it on a 23 hp Kubota. ![]() The cure is to up grade the plow (version 10-8.2) get rid of the front beam. ![]() Detailed instructions are available for a nominal fee. ![]() The "Heat and Beat" philosophy of mechanical engineering is very useful when performing this upgrade. ![]() Finish the upgrade by selecting a good clear 6" piece of pressure treated 2x4 to fill the space previously occupied by the front beam. If you don't have a good clear 6" piece of 2x4 (increasingly hard to find these days) be creative. ![]() Ta-da! Detailed instructions available for those willing to accept this challenge. CAD drawings with +- 1/4" tolerances are extra (a LOT extra).

Tonight on Comedy Central, Patrick channels the Red Green show.
(JK, it's nice to see someone deciding that adapting a tool that would otherwise be languishing in a shed somewhere is a better plan than buying something new.)

That’s one of the purposes. Someone might recognize this particular shape of plow bottom as a “breaking plow”. It’s the style used to turn sod over and expose the roots so the grass will die. A plow for the purpose you describe is called a “stubble plow”. TMI, I know.

Would that CAD template happen to be one in the spirit of project binky?
