Aluminum reacts to both acid and base. As mentioned, simple green can wreck aluminum parts.

I like petro based solvents and citrus solventsin my ultrasonic cleaner.

I am sure you can always get something in Cal.

Actually, a very very good solvent

IBM used to use powerful solvents to clean circuit boards, but switched over to citrus based solvents many years ago. It really is powerful stuff.

I know that it isn't popular but I hose mine down with WD40.

I used it as a chain wash, and then unless I am heading out to extreme conditions, I leave it on as a lube.

It never gets dry since I give it a quick stay and wipe after every rid (80k or so)

I use WD40 as a cleaner a lot. I'll often spray it on, agitate it with a brush and blow it off with compressed air. I also use it as a pre cleaner.

I'll 2nd diesel but I use regular gas as much as anything now. Add in a little motor oil on the final rinse and most things are good. Even paint brushes.

CA fcvked themselves by banning real paint thinner, etc. It just makes outlaws out of many of us. However, where PT was getting up there in price when it went away, gas is a 4th of the cost. My all time favorite was MEK.

I just got this degreaser off of ebay, its way better than purple power and from Sam's club.

Excellent cleaner.
Thinner than Acetone (?)...volatile. Poof it's gone if not contained.

I use WD 40 a ton as a cleaner, . Same as you, spray down, blow off with air gun, or wipe with soft paper towell.

I still have a quart can of MEK. I was always careful of it because it seemed to eat up any kind of glove I used with it. I also still have an unopened gallon of Chem-Dip. I'm saving it for a special occasion.
