I have an attachment for my impact "driver" that allows me to use either 1/2" or 3/8". That's cordless. I have a 1/2" pneumatic, and a 1" electric impact big boy for the farm stuff.

I could use something like the cordless Snap-on cordless heavy use impacts without the price. It would be nice to no longer depend on the air compressor.

what say ye, brain trust? How do the Ryobis and Milwaukees stack up under heavy use?

I have used my Milwaukee daily in the shop for close to 2 years now, zero problems, but I hate it , I went back to air.

I used 1/4" Ryobi 18v driver for years at the track, with socket adapters. But I always broke them loose with a breaker bar, and use a torque wrench to tighten.

I do have this 1/2" driver now, and my local HD has 30 in stock:

That is a great price. 300 ft# should be enough for most tasks, and easier to handle.

That Ryobi 1/2" is very good value. Just keep the battery topped off for full torque.

That's a killer deal, I already have the battery and charger for my Ryobi drill but having extra of both is nice. How they manufacture something like this and sell it for a profit for $100 has me scratching my head...

The battery on my drill seems to last forever. I can set it down for a year and it's still charged. I'll probably run out and get one of these today, I've been needing a 1/2" cordless. I have air impact tools but my lifestyle is always fixing things where they lay, traveling w tools, etc.

You can't touch the quality of Snap-on or Mac cordless impacts w store brands but no way in hell I'm paying for them new. I've bought a couple used w mixed results, the condition of the batteries is always maker or breaker of whether you get a deal. Plus, how beat-up the tool is from using in a shop, of course.

I bought a really nice used Snap-on 3/8" cordless impact w two good batteries and a charger for $150 last summer in Wisconsin. The battery life is fantastic on both and the tool feels like $600 in your hand, because it was when new.

The impact tool as a much larger battery, works in both tools. The drill is 1.5 Ah, the 1/2" driver is 4.0 Ah.

I have zero problem paying $800 for an electric impact wrench, two batteries, and a charger.

But my question is, who would buy a 3/8" impact wrench? It makes no sense to me. 1/2" seems more logical. If you want one of those slow wrenches in electric, that also makes sense. You know, the kind that won't zip stuff on and off.

I'm even more baffled by a 1/4" drive impact or one of the small hex drive impacts.

My cordless 3/8 impact, is probably the tool I reach for the most .

Does it have a slow mode, or does it zip everything on and off? One of the nice features of the Bosch impact driver is the slow mode. I just pulled the trigger on a Metabo brushless impact wrench. I would be disappointed if it zips everything off all the time. That could ruin some threads.

Me too. I've owned both sizes in cordless and air driven for years and the 3/8 cordless is the most versatile and perfect tool in my box. 3/8" is the size of most sockets used when working on cars unless it's lug nuts or large bolts on the chassis. Everything under the hood or inside the car are smaller fasteners and 1/2" drive tools are too heavy and cumbersome. You are not going to use a 1/2" with a 10mm socket...the small Snap-on 3/8" is the shizzle and it has plenty of torque.

It sounds like you gents are using them as powered ratchets. I can see the point in that. I had two air powered ratchets, one looked like a ratchet and one was a butterfly model. I don't think I ever used either, but in cordless gun form if they got in the right space, I could see using them.

My Dewalt 1/4” drill driver is my everyday tool..Phillips, torx, dill bits, sockets, etc. Does everything, but you can get carried away. For fine work, I have a small Dewalt drill with the standard keyless chuck.

30+ years ago, I had a battery powered B & D 1/4” ratchet. It wasn’t the greatest, but back then it did lots of work on the car. After it died, I couldn’t find parts or a replacement.

^ Got it. OK, based on your post and others here I pulled the trigger on a new open box Snap-on 3/8" black impact 18v and two batteries and charger. I'll let you know how it works out. Snap-on wont sell to me for some reason. It says I cant register on their website so screw 'em.

I use long torx driver bits with my Bosch impact driver. The German cars use tamper proof torx. I initially bought the driver set to use in my restrooms because the stainless steel bathroom stalls use tamper proof torx.....who would have thought?

I cant recall seeing tamperproof torx on German cars... elaborate? Saab uses a lot of torx, but not tamperproof.

You work on a lot of restrooms?

You got it. Id use it mostly as a 3/8" powered ratchet.
