So did any of you catch the latest Bush 'recess appointment?'
Yes, your favorite hiring genius, Dubya, picked the new wife of a close friend to head up Immigration.
Her qualifications? Zip. But she's cute and maybe, like 'Brownie' goes to the same Bible classes. So she's the ideal choice for the Bushistas. Oh, you missed the coverage in the right-wing media? Maybe Fox was too embarrassed to cover it. In fact, it got little press... http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/editorial/3573573.html This is a pattern with Dubya. He's so unused to dissent that he's made a lot of 'recess appointments' (I've heard it's 200+) of people whose qualifications are minimal in some cases. During congressional recesses, he gets to play monarch. I'm sure that's fine with the neocons, I mean after all, they don't care a fig about immigration issues, right?

Tech;
Over the years, you have changed my opinion about so many things. Damn it, you have done it again. Bush doesn't think there IS an immigration problem. He sees the porous southern border as the historical answer to his texas friends' need for cheap labor. I'm afraid you're right, once again.

But it continually amazes me that Bush supporters overlook power grabs they wouldn't tolerate under a Democrat; ideologically-driven (faith-based?) choices for posts; incredible Federal budget deficits and moves that seem to help grow, rather than shrink trade deficits. Somebody in the Republican party has to point out when the emperor has no clothes!

So what I'm hearing from you, Tech, is that because she is a woman she is not up to the task.
How very progressive of you.

So what does she need to be qualified for? Immigration? That's not even a concern with most people. Just some yahoo militia in Ariz. as far as I know.

I'm using PC to quash the debate.
Why should the left have all the fun?

Or, you could go to her own pronouncements: "I realize that I'm not 80 years old, I have a few gray hairs, more coming, but I will seek to work with those who are knowledgeable in this area, who know more than I do." -- Julie Myers Well, she knows her own age (within a range) which may be more than Michael Brown knew...

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and you're telling the correct time with this post. I agree with you on this one, except for the recess appointment numbers generally. Bush is generally on a par with recent presidents in the number of recess appointments. He still has a way to go to catch the eight-year Clinton numbers, but given that he has three more years, I think it's fair to say that he will, but not by much.
