Her qualifications? Zip. But she's cute and maybe, like 'Brownie' goes to the same Bible classes. So she's the ideal choice for the Bushistas.

This is a pattern with Dubya. He's so unused to dissent that he's made a lot of 'recess appointments' (I've heard it's 200+) of people whose qualifications are minimal in some cases. During congressional recesses, he gets to play monarch.

I'm sure that's fine with the neocons, I mean after all, they don't care a fig about immigration issues, right?

Bush doesn't think there IS an immigration problem. He sees the porous southern border as the historical answer to his texas friends' need for cheap labor.

Sing, I'm not personally convinced that immigration is one of our country's "top five" issues, so ideologically, I'm more in line with the president. except i don't believe in *ever* appointing unqualified people, no matter how cute.

But it continually amazes me that Bush supporters overlook power grabs they wouldn't tolerate under a Democrat; ideologically-driven (faith-based?) choices for posts; incredible Federal budget deficits and moves that seem to help grow, rather than shrink trade deficits.

Somebody in the Republican party has to point out when the emperor has no clothes!

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day, and you're telling the correct time with this post. I agree with you on this one, except for the recess appointment numbers generally. Bush is generally on a par with recent presidents in the number of recess appointments. He still has a way to go to catch the eight-year Clinton numbers, but given that he has three more years, I think it's fair to say that he will, but not by much.

Well, that's true from a statistical standpoint, but in Dubya's case, we're talking about a president from the same party controlling both houses of Congress.
