obamas message to your kids
So next tues. there will be a televised address aimed directly at k-6 grades. The prez's speech is intended to be shown during school and after the speech materials will be distributed to help your child during a discussion.
I'm not sure if my kids school is going to participate. If they are, I will try to get my wife to make a dental appointment for my daughter on that day. Its not that I'm afraid that exposure to O will turn my kid to a commie. It is a form of protest that I will be exercising. Will your kids school participate?

Our school district is up in the air.
Odd that we are not discussing the context of the message. Exactly what are you protesting? Wife was miffed last night that our district might not participate. Asked her how she would feel if it were some past POTUS that she disagreed with. Would she have a problem with the school district not participating? After all it goes both ways. Personally I'd want my kids to watch regardless of whether or not I disagree with the current POTUS. It's an excellent opportunity to have a discussion over dinner and answer their questions, see how they interpreted what they heard, get insight into their opinions and perceptions. Sheltering your kids and not taking advantage of an opportunity to get them involved early is simply creating more sheeple. To that I say BAHHHH!

Smonkey, its not that I am protecting my child 6 y/o from the message. It will probably be harmless stuff (get good grades, brush your teeth, obey your prez). These are matters that we cover at home on a regular basis.
I want my school district to have more autonomy from the feds. It would seem that the WH is feeling some heat already from concerns being raised about the reading materials being handed out in conjunction with the speech. Although the content of the speech hasn't been released, the materials included in the discussion are available. I cropped this from an article on the subject. is planning a little lecture for your kids and all of America's schoolchildren on the "importance of education". The Department of Education sent out a special worksheet to teachers. It's full of heavy activism. Here are some of the questions your kids will be asked: What do you think the president wants us to do? Does the speech make you want to do anything? Are we able to do what President Obama is asking of us? What would you like to tell the president? Students are also being asked to "write letters to themselves about what they can do to help the president. These will be collected and redistributed at an appropriate later date by the teacher to make students accountable to their goals".

As easily influenced as most adults are by Obama, he can really have his way with the kids.

White House Withdraws Call for Students to 'Help' Obama
President Obama's plan to speak to the nation's schoolchildren in a video address next week erupted into controversy as critics claimed he was trying to indoctrinate America's kids. FOXNews.com Thursday, September 03, 2009 Critics Decry Obama's 'Indoctrination' Plan for Students 27486500 The Obama administration is rethinking its course recommendations for students ahead of President Obama's address to the the nation's schoolchildren next week, rewriting its suggestions to teachers for student assignments on how to "help the president." I checked with my daughters' schools and one hasn't decided what to do while the other has decided to tape the address and then determine if or how to use it at some later date.
Anyone else get feedback from your schools?

I emailed the principals of my kid's middle and high schools. Both responded that they were not going to participate. Here is the text of my email:
I am writing you to discourage your school’s participate in President Obama’s planned address to students on Tuesday, September 8. I have read the materials forwarded to teachers by the U.S. Dept. of Education and view this as a political event being foist on our children under the guise of an educational experience. It is unwarranted and unprecedented. I am sure that I am not alone in my displeasure with this attempt to exploit the classroom as a political rally. I urge you to make every attempt to resist all federal government interference in public education, for which they have no constitutional responsibility or authority. This is not the time, nor is a classroom the place, for shameless political self promotion. However, if your school feels that it must participate on Tuesday, then I request that you make arrangements for students to be excused from the event, at the request of a parent. That time could be better spent reading quietly, getting a head start on homework or finishing other classroom work. I do not wish for my child to miss other important activities during that school day. I hope that the school will respect the concerns of parents regarding this activity, preferably by not participating at all, or by excusing our children, so they might engage in legitimate academic endeavors. Best regards,

Were you as upset when Bush was reading "My pet goat" to schoolchildren on 911. That's funny. I'll have none of that "stay in school, keep off drugs, get good grades" commie BS being told to my children!

Your post has absolutely nothing to do with any of the concerns voiced in this thread. As per usual.

There is no hypocrisy to see here. Move along. Let me add: I did not and do not support "No Child Left Behind" There should be no federal money given to schools. The federal government should leave the money in the state and stay out of education. I support abolishing the Department of Education

Why do you hate your Commander in Chief so much?
2 years ago you would all by lambasted publicly on Fox news as traitors who hate America and love terrorists. America, what a place.
