Whats Up with POP

POP has been writing all this stuff about doom and gloom...the words coming out of his fingers could very well be my own pessimistic take on the world. Yet he turns around and says he can't stand to listen to TABBY..that he is full of it. He also goes on to say just how short lived and hunky Dory things will be after the fall.

So whats up with POP. I leave it to U Boyz to come to some kind of conclusion?

1. POP is a Tabs wanabe and/or is jealous?

2. POP can't face the truth that things ain't gona be hunky dory and is projecting his own depair unto TABS

3. POP is just joining Normy and Dipso in the out ot lunch crowd.

4. POP is a right on guy who knows what is going on.

For one I want to say publicly that I'm flattered by your man crush on me and that it's obvious that you can't live another day without me by your side.

Sorry but I'm taken. And I don't go that way. But I'm still flattered. You can go on caring so much about what I have to say...

Honestly I think our views are similar on a lot of things - the key difference is I believe we're going to ultimately emerge from the present crisis stronger and better off. You apparently do not. You think it's going to be the end of the world or of western civilization or that everyone will be eating their pets in a couple of months or whatever. I simply don't subscribe to that point of view.

While transitions from one system to another are never easy or painless, they also often lead to better things. Things are gonna' be rough for a while, especially in the areas that chugged the most Kool-Aid (like CA). It's gonna' sting for a while. People are gonna' get hurt. Some people are probably gonna' die. But the pain won't be permanent. This too shall pass. Come what may, I believe that. The future is never pre-decided, it's what we make it. We've got our problems to work out for sure, but to constantly rail on about "OMFG we're all fuggered" is really unhelpful and not particularly erudite.

Go have a cold one and check out the sunset over the desert mountains to the west of Vegas. I remember them being especially beautiful this time of year. I think you need it man. Seriously. Go on a little spiritual for a while.

I've hung with POP a few times and he's a normal guy. I don't think he's a pillow biter either, as he didn't try to dead horse me as I crashed on his couch. And I've hung with him and his wife together too. He's the real deal.

Yes. POP sees what is happening and chooses to focus on the positive view.

I didn't see a choice for "POP and Tabby sittin' in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G..." so I voted at random.

Now there's a hell of a recommendation.

[QUOTE=Porsche-O-Phile;5435452] I think our views are similar on a lot of things - the key difference is I believe we're going to ultimately emerge from the present crisis stronger and better off. You apparently do not. You think it's going to be the end of the world or of western civilization

While transitions from one system to another are never easy or painless, they also often lead to better things. Things are gonna' be rough for a while... But the pain won't be permanent..... Come what may, I believe that. The future is never pre-decided, it's what we make it.

Your take on the current situation is essentially in line with what I think. I do not think that it is going to be the end of the world. I think we may not recognize the world at the end of the day, but it will be in line as to what happened to other great empires of history. Perhaps the Asian cultures will gain dominance?

Maynard Keynes was asked during the Depression of the 1930's if there had been any other times where things were worse...His reply was, "THE DARK AGES."

Eventually a new order will rise to fill the power vacuum..I really do not see that happening over night nor in several decades..there will be an extended period of time where there is a malingering malaise and chaos as things get themselves sorted out. Think of the Great Depression but worse as the government will be powerless to do anything about it..Think of Russia after the fall of the Soviets, think of Germany in the early 30's where the money was worthless. Think of the fall of the Roman empire in the West. Put all those pictures together as the logical outcome.

If the US government should not be able to meet its obligations, the financial system would collapse. It is staggering on as it is..the Global economy will collapse as the financial system is the facilitator of that Global economy. The financial system provides capital and cash flow. remove the value from the currency and what do U have? If the USA cannot pay for its military posture it contracts, the roaches of the world will emerge..and regional conflict would ensue. So what we end up with is a fractured international system reminiscent of previous eras.

This is the ultimate end of the road we are on now..This will not happen over night, but it could happen with suddenness. We are now getting to the point where the governments options to meet a crisis is becoming ever more limited. As the house of cards gets evermore shaky the likelihood of events spinning out of control grows ever greater as the governments options become fewer.

There may not be a Gotterdammerung but there could possibly be an indefinite period of extreme malaise of high unemployment, poverty and economic depression. things would have to sort themselves out. In this period education, social services, technological innovation would all go by the wayside as there wouldn't be the funds to pay for it. Perhaps a glimpse of 17th century Europe would be a good barometer of what conditions would be like.

Perhaps the difference between you and I is the fact that my parents and grand parents all went through the Depression and I know from their first hand experiences what it was like. WW2 and the destruction it caused was what resurrected the USA and then the world from the collapse of the system. Conditions in the USA are not the same as it was then.

What the USA has to do to avoid this malaise is go to a program of austerity by cutting government spending. Promoting business instead of hampering it with regulations and taxes. Those things would go a long way to restoring confidence, and it is the loss of confidence that causes fear and eventually a panic that would bring on a collapse. The Obama administration is certainly headed down the road to oblivion as has been reasoned out on other Threads. The Republicans and the American people have to understand the likely outcome if they don't change their ways and expectations.
