Perhaps it did and we just don't know it. Isn't hell on earth, plagues and lots of other bad stuff supposed to follow the rapture.

Exactly. And a little more research will reveal that The Rapture is an American invention. The Bible is pretty vague on the subject on the exact mechanism for calling home the righteous. The idea that people will suddenly disappear as they are "called to heaven" is one possible interpretation, to be sure, but it's certainly not the only one, and no more correct than any other.

My thought is that when people are "called to heaven", they usually leave their carcasses around. Why would the end of days be any different? Based on the wide latitude for interpretation, it would also be reasonable to guess that God will use things such disease, war, famine, or straight-up death to call people home...

One thing I do seem to recall a verse saying that it was fruitless/futile/presumptuous to try to guess the will of God. I'm pretty sure that if you try to make a big show out of knowing what he will do, he will prove you wrong. As such, the end of the world might be tomorrow, or a hundred million years from now.

Spot on. I'm actually a religious person, at it were, so I got to laugh at these idiots from a subtly different perspective. They're not just religious wackos (I'm one of those), they're religious wackos who are obviously not reading the documentation. haha. I was making solid progress towards "happily imbibed" at 6pm local yesterday, which seemed like the best state to laugh at them.
