Where is this?

- a huge budget shortfall
- very low graduation rates
- high dropout rates

- 25% of the population lacks any health insurance

- of all the jobs added to the economy last year over 1/3 paid minimum wage or below

Guess the country, state, or region.

Does that huge population of illegals sucking up the state money have anything to do with it, the school drop outs, the illiterates?

Don't entirely blame illegals for the high unemployment rate, low graduation rate, and % percentage of uninsured.

I wish problems were that easy to pin just one factor. It is usually many and for different reasons.

Texas is subsidizing businesses to come to the state instead of using the money on education -- that's one problem

and at the same time collecting taxes on all those businesses and wages that the other states lost. good for them. In turn they will have more money than the other states for that education,

IIRC in TX each county gets a portion of oil production revenues that they can/must? provide for education, above and beyond what they get from the State. No oil in your county? Too bad.

not so fast, Dean -- many or most of those businesses pay such low wages that no taxs can be collected on the wage slaves

or should I say serfs?

then there is the issue of how much Texas taxes businesses themselves - care to take a guess on what that is?

the bottom line is that, as the Texas Monthly put it, Texas has sold its soul for this economic "growth"

of course, some (Louisianians, for example) don't think that Texas had much soul anyway

No worries, Rick has a plan, not just for TX but for the nation.

The Response: A call to prayer for a nation in crisis

Fellow Americans,
Right now, America is in crisis: we have been besieged by financial debt, terrorism, and a multitude of natural disasters.

As a nation, we must come together and call upon Jesus to guide us through unprecedented struggles, and thank Him for the blessings of freedom we so richly enjoy.

Some problems are beyond our power to solve, and according to the Book of Joel, Chapter 2, this historic hour demands a historic response. Therefore, on August 6, thousands will gather to pray for a historic breakthrough for our country and a renewed sense of moral purpose.

I sincerely hope youíll join me in Houston on August 6th and take your place in Reliant Stadium with praying people asking Godís forgiveness, wisdom and provision for our state and nation.

There is hope for America. It lies in heaven, and we will find it on our knees.

so what is it now webb, do the poor pay taxes or not, this time they don't last time they did, what is it?
It's still money used in the community and it's still jobs and money liberal states like California aren't going to get

ok, do we come together and call upon Walmart Jesus?

or some other Jesus whose visage was NOT on that Walmart receipt?

or - hey maybe he meant to call up the illegal alien Jesus -- the guy who was out in the back 40 picking vegetables?
