talking to a patient this morning, he told me about an illegal alien that hit a parked car on a residential street going fast enough to completely clear the grass, hit the garage door on the fly, driving his truck that was parked in the garage into his washing machine, pushing it through a wall. She spoke no English, was an illegal without a license or insurance, but the owner of the car had insurance on it, so above mentioned patient was not completely boned. The gendarms gave her a ticket for reckless driving and let her go.

That ticket will get paid some time after Sniper moves from Philly to San Francisco, or monkees fly out of my ass, whichever happens first.

They probably changed it to cover only new offenses because our constitution prohibits ex post facto punishment. It is unconstitutional to pass a law that punishes someone retroactively for something they alread did. Making DWIs a deportable offense probably qualified as punishment, so applying it to past DWIs would have been ex post facto.

You are correct. The shock headline in the blog is misleading. The proposed law would deport any lawful resident alien who committed three DWIs.

Illegal immigrants are subject to deportation because they're here illegally. The story about the illegal alien who committed such a horrible crime is interesting but it is not relevant to this discussion. It is only relevant to the larger discussion of border security and how we deal with illegal immigrants. This law would apply only to legal immigrants who have not yet received citizenship or who are resident aliens or other temporary non-immigrant aliens.

The shock headline tries to make it seem like the Senate is doing something about illegal immigration when they're not and tries to make it look like anyone who waters down the bill or oposes it is soft on illegal imigrants. They might be, but it isn't because of their stance on this bill.
