I AM aware of the events leading up to the changes in the mental health system. I however experienced it back when RR was Governator of CA.

My family had a long time issue with a relative. Our experiences were up close and personal. The program he was in was defunded and he was tossed into the street.

This guy seems to have been hidden and there is no easily accessible record on his past.

joe bob, i am sorry this happened to your relative. keep in mind, however, that governors don't make the budget. the legislature does. and the ACLU had a huge hand in what was happening, along with a movement to get people out of institutions and living on their own (perhaps very misguided).

Further he was in a neuroscience PhD program and one would think that his Professors would have been able to notice his behavior? This is what strikes me as being odd???

If he was adopted, one would think that his adoptd parents told him he was theirs, but his emotional gut feelings told him otherwise..that something was wrong with what he was being told by his adopted parents as being true.

Let us say one of a persons grandparents is schizo, children learn theri coping and social skills (how they relate to the world) from their parents..thus a persons parent learned these skills from a schizo grand parent. Then that person is born and learns from their schizo parent..Thus it is passed on down through the generations.

i think we are speaking past each other. certainly, environment is a huge factor (lead exposure while in the womb...) along with coping skills learned from parents, etc. if it was ENTIRELY genetic, identical twins would have a 100% correlation, which they do not (48%).

the fact about these incidents is this: there is a certain percentage of the population that is going to commit these kinds of crimes. it is a small percentage. however, as our population increases, so do the number of persons that are going to have these leanings. it is unfortunate. making more laws or banning weapons is not going to solve the problem. frankly, there is no solution, IMO, but to be diligent and to be prepared to act.

I will agree with you that crazy is crazy. But our entertainment industry has been advertising that violence equals entertainment. Movies, TV, books, video games, toys. Advertising works, and our entertainment industry has advertised that violent behavior is cool. Most can see past the hype, but there's one born every minute. Just because violent video games, and movies/shows haven't shaped your behavior, or the behavior of most people, doesn't mean they do not have a profound impact in some instances. I believe Nostatic has experience with using games as training devices, but I'm sure that suggesting that less stable elements of society might view them similarly is foolish.

There is something very fishy about this. At one point the psychiatrist who received the notebook said there were TWO packages; he says the one with the notebook was received after the shooting. There are several inconsistencies with the psychiatrists' narrative. Or at the very least some serious, unbelievable conicidences My guess is the psychiatrist is doing some major CYA.

Walmart is happy. #1 gun seller in the US.

The arms market is souring. Typical, everytime something like this happens and makes big news, people flock to dealers. I guess the reasoning is buyers get into a panic thinking some ban is around the corner.

I guess the question is, was he simply a dork who says stupid stuff, or was he really planning something? It doesn't change the fact that he is an idiot.

But owning a bunch of different weapons doesn't make you a criminal or a killer. Having a bunch of ammo doesn't either.

When discussing this with one of my neighbors last night, I pointed out that .22LR ammo comes in boxes of 500. Each one about 3"x3"x6". If you go target shooting a lot you can use up a lot of ammo. So, it is not unusual to buy 20 boxes when it is on sale. That would be 10,000 rounds of ammunition!
