I was hoping to run though the new tunnel early Sat AM on the way to The Shop - Issaquah will put us too far South....I might have to make a special trip before they start to charge tolls sometime soon.....

I'll be at Cathcart at 7:30 am if anyone else is coming from the North End, then heading to The Egg and Us in Issaquah.

So is that tunnel open now?? How does that compare to I5 driving north? Does it just bypass downtown?

Am I wrong that years ago there where caverns under Seattle? Is that disrupted by this new tunnel?

Yes the new tunnel is open. They had a running event for the opening and my daughter and I ran through it, along with 23,000 of our closest friends.

How does that compare to I5 driving north?

Hwy 99 follows the waterfront through Seattle - you wouldn't take it if you were in a hurry.

Does it just bypass downtown?

No - but it does allow better access to the West side of downtown Seattle. The waterfront, Pike Place Market, the downtown area in general....

Seattle was build on top of the old streets - the Denny Regrade is a good example.

No, the tunnel is just North of downtown Seattle. The Seattle Underground is still intact.
