got rear ended

i was stopped behind another car that was stopped for a pedestrian at the crosswalk. got hit from behind by an 18 year old girl driving a jeep cherokee who wasn't looking where she was going.

the jeep's bumper was higher than the 951, so it simply rode over the bumper and hit the rear panel;

not much damage to the jeep;

Geeze, you can't seem to get a break these days. Oh well, at least you didn't have to crawl out the hatch to escape, and she didn't get out of the car trying to attack you, and she didn't throw a brick at you. Maybe things are actually looking up...

this occurred in port angeles, on the return trip from a weekend at the olympic peninsula, so daily driving wouldn't have prevented this.

neck seems okay so far. maybe i should get one of these for the rear;

good luck, and best wishes, I can feel your pain, hope they don't total your car, serious, insurance can be a PITA....

Glad to hear it wasn't worse, welcome to my nightmare, 8 weeks after my head on wreck with the little 70 year old lady (who was at fault), I've been in two casts, wife has too, over 20 xrays, 6 MRI's, shattered bones, plates and screws and pins in bones, and we're pushing over $40-50K in medical bills...thank god for insurance...

sigh.

nuff said. didn't mean to highjkack your post, just count your blessings.

10 weeks in a wrist cast and one finger typing sucks big time.

anyone want free 911 guards red paint chips? I have a few to share

Sorry to hear that Peter.
I cycle to work every day, and most of my close calls in traffic have been with young ladies (more often than not with a cell phone jammed in one ear).

That's not good Peter, after all your work on the car, this happens.
Hope the insurance covers it all.
Al is right, it seems that younger women forget about the outside world when driving.

good news so far, the accident was found to be not my fault (doh) and the girl's insurance accepted 100% liability. they have tentatively approved repairing the car and not totalling it out. will keep everyone posted on progress.

Ouch. Always a PITA dealing with idiot drivers, insurance and body shops.

Glad nobody was hurt. Hope things work out well.

Cheers.

Peter,

This angers me for you and your car.

I fear these type of lady drivers most, as they are by far the most fearless, clueless drivers on the road. Often I see a tailgating car right behind me, and they turned out to be these drivers. They seem to rely solely on following what's directly ahead of them regardless of speed (not checking speed, nor stopping distance required),
and drive only on reflective basis on what little they happen to be seeing at any given time.

And Jeff seems to like rubbing salt on the wound ...

almost got tailgated in the carpool lanes on Monday morning heading into Seattle. glad I checked my mirrors when we slowed, because the person behind me was not paying attention. he/she swerved left and right trying to come to a stop. I ducked left and got lucky...

update;

the body shop removed the rear sections of the car to inspect the damage further and revised their initial estimate up to $11k. the insurance adjuster then arrived to verify the damage and agreed the repair would cost around $11k. the main reason for the high cost is because the rear panel (the section that holds the rear lights and license plate) needs to be cut out and a new porsche factory part needs to be welded back in. this section is actually designed by porsche engineers to be a 'replaceable part' in case of collision, which shows how advanced their thinking was at the time. insurance then had to decide wether or not to total the car.

since i've already provided to the insurance adjuster some of the performance modifications done to the car, they knew this wasn't a standard 'bluebook value' car. so they decided to hire an independent appraiser to figure out the market value of the car.

i provided the appraiser with a 3ring binder that had some of the major performance mods written up, mainly;
1) wolf3d engine management system
2) custom turbocharger upgrade
3) engine bore and sleeve

i also provided some receipts, and showed him my collection of receipts and documents that filled another entire 3ring binder.

here's what the appraiser said;

'At your request we have appraised the subject vehicle. We have determined that the fair market value of the subject vehicle, just prior to the loss on October 13, 2008 is $25,250.00. Our report is as follows...'

i now have a 23page document from the professional appraiser that i could use to prove value in case i ever need to in the future.

the car repairs are now proceeding.

my back still hurts though.
