Hello,

I'm looking for the following Kidde fire extinguisher:

http://www.criticaltool.com/kidde-automotive-fire-extinguishers-466422.html

Anyone know where I can get it in / near the Kirkland area?

Thanks,

Scott

No.

Schucks carries a similar Kidde extinguisher, though I think the handle is plastic instead of metal.

Seems like the Sparco Fire Eater (Fireater) is the way to go maybe. I tried getting a group buy together for some (5 or 10 makes it worth the international shipping) and breaks down to $120 shipped (if all of us were in the Seattle area) instead of $200 not including shipping. You guys interested?

I saw that and was interested so I did a little digging but I couldn't find a whole lot of actual information and I am still unsure just how they work and how effective they are.

Have you found any good literature &/or demonstration videos?

I've got a 5 pound HALON bottle for sale. I live near Monroe if you want to come look at it or I'll ship and take paypal. This is mint clean, not a scratch on it.

Bought it late in 2008, never used it, the Bottle is in full cert and has all labels/tags on it as shown in the photos.

I think I paid just over $200 for it and the mounting bracket including the WA sales tax.

I'll sell it for $150.

PM me if you're interested.

I've been considering one of these versus my limited Halotron in my car but the price plus shipping from Europe has put me off as well.
I think a group buy of these compact and effecient units in this community should be easy, count me in.

Your links aren't working.... you must be using the link box wrong. Highlight the text you want to appear as a link, click the link button, then paste the address into the box.

Or just paste the link and don't use the link box... the forums will automatically turn it into a link.

Sparco Fire Eater / Fireater group buy (was: where can I buy the "fire stick")

Hmm, I am seeing some weird behavior also.

Try copying and pasting this link in a browser?

white78911,

This is actually Wolfe's roommate posting. I just worked for the past year as a fire extinguisher technician at a fire safety company in CA. While I don't know of any extinguisher stores on the eastside, I'd like to offer advice on your brand/type choices. Kidde is notorious in the extinguisher field for being cheap pieces of crap. Most of their models have plastic parts that really should be metal, and some even feature a pressure guage held in place with a pin. Most of your dry-chem extinguishers are pressurized to 195psi. That's more pressure than your tires. Though expensive, a higher quality extinguisher (Amerex, Badger, Ansul/Sentry) is not only more reliable, more easily serviced (recharged, hydrotested, etc.), but also safer. Another point I would stress, is to make sure to get an extinguisher with a pressure guage, as this is the only way to ascertain that the extinguisher is still charged and able to put out your fire in case of emergency.

A quick note about halon/halotron/clean guard: these are great for putting out fires in situations where there are sensitive electronics involved (personal computers, server rooms, etc.), however they have relatively low ratings (the amount of fire it can put out). Dry-chem BC's are good for engine fires, or any other situations where grease, fuel, or other flammable liquids may be present.

Hope this information helps.
-Drew

however, using dry chem on an engine fire will almost guarantee that the engine will have to be rebuilt (dry chem is incredibly fine/abrasive dust), and electronics will be trashed.

in most cases this is not a major concern, but when you have an expensive custom motor/electronics, you'll try your best to save them!
