Swiped off the google machine, but I think this is what many of us who shopped for stereo gear in the mid to late 70's and into the mid 80's were striving for - or a reasonable facsimile - I know I would have owned something like this if I had had Pillsbury money in the family (maybe more style than substance, if you compare it to what the likes of McIntosh were offering at the time, but what style!):

On a car note...albeit not Porsches...the Velocity channel is starting a series called "JDM Legends". Any fans of old Z cars or Mazda RX7s might want to tune in. Starts Tuesday!

Ooh- I had a '79 280z just before I bought my first Porsche... sweet car, but I cornered too hard with a stock engine and starved my camshaft of oil... bye-by to that set of cylinder heads! Way cheaper to fix than any Porsche though... I bought that car for the express purpose of installing an LS1 engine into it, but when I discovered that the stock engine was fine (before wrecking the heads), changed my mind.

At one time in my life, I would have exchanged several body parts for a system like this!

Anybody going to the Grand Prix of Portland? (Grand Prix of Portland - Home) I just got my tix. They go on sale tomorrow unless you're an e-club member or a "Friend of PIR" member. I'm embarrassed to say, unless I get out to PIR this summer, the race will be my first visit...ever. But I think we picked a good one to go on. Can't wait to see the Indycars again!

This is the setup I had (still have) after college.
Wild Carver stuff with the "sonic holography", etc.
Sounds great though running through a decent set of Polk Audio tower speakers.
My poor man's high fidelity setup.

Somehow Carver got tube sound from his solid state designs.
In fact there were a couple of famous challenges where he was able to duplicate the sound exactly of two very high end tube amps, Mark Levinson ML-2 and Conrad-Johnson Premier Four, such that you couldn't tell the difference.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Carver

Carver eventually built their Llightstar amps that are worth quite a bit on today's market 2nd hand.

Carver is still around, and building of all things, tube amps. Ha
