It's not really rocket science, but some experience goes along way in getting these on nicely.

You'll need either some decal installation spray solution or I've used soapy water as well.
A sharp razor blade or exacto knife and a rubber squeegee is also needed.

You want to get both the backside of the decal wet along with the part of the car it's going on.
Position the stripe on the car in the "correct" position.
Then you start slowly squeegeeing the liquid from the center towards the outside of the stripe
You're trying to get both the liquid and any air bubbles out.

When you're satisfied that you've got the decal down on the car, I'd gently use a soft towel to wipe up any extra fluid.
Trim at the ends and door openings.
Easy peasy...you'll see it's take some patience and a helper makes things go a bit easier, though you can put these on with just one person.

If all else fails...hire a professional.
Doug. Thanks. About what I figured. I have the stripe from Bob Tilton and after looking at it feels like you get one chance to make it right.

Yup...explains the color scheme. I was thinking (hoping) more of a "Brumos" tribute, but...Hot Wheels and Magnus are a thing now. (I confess I have two of "his" other cars in Hot Wheels form.)

Harry, I watched a pro put on a "rear bumper protection film" on our blue Subaru (after trying and failing to do it myself). The key was mildly soapy water so it could be moved around a bit for final placement. The moisture just squeegees out (how do you spell squeegees?).

That said, on the first episode of "Wheeler Dealer" Ed put a side stripe on a 924 without water...might want to look that one up on YouTube and see if it helps or gives you any more confidence.

Edit: Here's a video from that episode...the stripes go on at about the 5 min mark - https://youtu.be/TKAo46LxGco

I have no first-hand knowledge, but my sister loves hers. Had it for five years now.

When my second '99 Boxster blew its motor (out of warranty ), the dealership gave me a Cayenne S as a loaner. This was first gen era. I was kind of a hater up to then, but after living with one for the better part of three weeks, I became a convert. Overall just really impressive. MPGs have kept me away from actually buying one, but as my ol' bod complains more and more about getting in and out of a low sports car, I'm seeing one (or more likely a Macan) in my future. (MPGs aren't as important as I work from home and just don't put miles on a vehicle anymore.)

I personally would avoid the first gen models (mostly because of age, but also some "known faults"...which I've read about but can't recall at this time). That said, one of the guys from the YouTube channel "Everyday Driver" bought a facelifted first gen model for his wife and he claims it's been excellent and overall very reliable. And I'll admit I've been tempted by a few GTS models that have come up on CL lately. But for me the second gen (2011-2017) models have such better interiors, I'd look for one of those. Plus, I think the base models are much better in Gen 2 era (not so "slow"). And of course there's the old adage "buy the newest and best example you can find".

Engines...most I've talked to say the S models are the ones to get. The base models don't have that much of an MPG advantage and suffer from low power (especially in the gen 1 models). I met a guy who had an early turbo and he hated the engine (said it was "too touchy"...not smooth). YMMV.

I mentioned the Macan...I like that size better, but can't afford one and the Boxster right now. But my dream garage would be a Macan S, Boxster or Cayman S (6 cyl of some kind), and a '72 911 "hotrod". ..*sigh*..dare to dream..

That's pretty much all I've got...

What's sparking the interest? Gonna build a Transsiberian 'ute?

Oh, just getting tired of bouncing my way down the I-500 on my commute. I like the seating position of Amy's Tuscon but an looking for something more comfy for that and road trips.

I'm also curious about the diesel options. I'm not really looking specifically for a Cayenne, it's just one of many that fit the profile.

The criteria in order of importance:

Not new...can't afford that.
Reliable
AWD
Decent mileage
SUV/Wagen
Sedan/Coupe
Diesel
Gas

"I'm also curious about the diesel options."

Yeah; I've thought that building a real Porsche offroad SUV would be a *****ing way to roll. So say we all?

Who will join me this Thursday to debate the point?

You will join me to debate the point, or you are merely agreeing with the vision of the offroad beast? (I hope it is the former!)
