Kent,
You might do a leakdown to make sure you didn't tag any valves.

I've finally scheduled it for 4pm on my calendar- it's not so fun when you can imagine the gang saying "now who is Curt?" and getting the answer "He's that guy that always shows up when the rest of us are getting ready to leave!"
See y'all Thursday!

I'll be there ...........
Bring me up to speed on the 2.7 install on the 912. What kind of issues are we having? I've kind of have some experience with that. The dumb-ass PO of my car did a hack swap before I bought it 10-12 years ago. So with the help of Roland Kunz on Rennlist I took it out and started over. Other than the broken ignition switch i just had. Its one of the most dependable cars I've ever owned. It really only gets driven for about 10 minutes per month with the pedal smashed to the floorboard. LOL. AX.

I feel a little silly admitting an issue at all!
I want to use a later 911 engine compartment electrical console (per the '76 engine model year, but with a few things deleted since I'm using carbs and don't have the rear window defogger wires in my glass) and I want to connect that console with a clean 14-pin connector. I also want to install the fuel pump relay in as close to the stock position (for a '76) as possible, so the manuals should help me to identify the wire colors in the car's wiring harness that vary from the big 912 diagram I have hanging on my garage wall so I can get that right too. I'm a pretty mechanically handy guy, but I grew up wrenching on my dirt bikes and didn't really pay much attention to car things (particularly as they relate to electricals) so I turn to the manuals whenever I can... things like ballast resistors frighten and confuse me, but rebuilding the engine mechanicals from scratch using Wayne's book seemed like no big deal. I do have beer (porter, corona, bud, some weird imported belgian stuff) waiting for anyone who would like to come over and help me get things set up right! (hint-hint!) Curt

Don't feel silly. That whats this whole BBS deal is all about. People you've never met helping each other out. Then over time they become friendships.
Now back to the task at hand. No big deal. Order a new 14 pin kit with both male and female connectors and pins. I guess the most important question is. Are you trying make whatever kind of harness that came with the 912 become the 2.7 harness? The Porsche schematics are some of the best. Color and numbers. Do you have the new console yet? We'll only take the wires you want into the 14 pin. The unused ones we'll dead end along the side of the wall. We can make it totally sanitary. I cut mine short. Maybe we'll come up with something a little different with yours. Leaving them full length in case you want use them later. Heading home to change my tires so I can drive my car to work tomorrow.

I'll bring some pics of the wires in the car with me (on my stupid "smartphone") to show what I have (maybe I'll bring in the console for my show & tell too!) Thanks for the help Cary (and everybody)- I'd much rather drive the Porsche to these gatherings than to have to drive the beemer or the motorcycle!
oh, and Eric- my motorcycle is beginning to take on that new look I told you about! I think there are only 4 or 5 wires that need to be "figured out"- that's part of why I feel so lame! Curt
