repair heat damage to paint
Paint experts, I was wondering if I could get some advice.
I bought a project car this spring and slowly rehabbing it. Engine is out for maintenance and as I degreased the engine bay I found some issues with the paint on the in the engine bay area. Near the rear bumper shocks/impact absorbers and the frame/tub that supports the engine, the passenger side custom header that was formally on the engine appear to have been running too hot and cooked the paint. Luckily the area was covered with grease and oil so was protected from the elements over the years. Some of the paint is damaged enough where I was able to knock off pieces of paint to bare metal when removed all of the oil and grease from the area. I assume that is similar to some of you guys who have used a MAP torch to strip paint. I know I definitely need to reseal those newly exposed areas. The other areas are cooked, but appear to be sealed. The damaged paint area is small as you can imagine is where the header was close to the paint. My main concern is that there a body/tub seam so don't want water ingress causing rust eventually. I was thinking I should remove all of the damaged paint, reseal the metal, spray undercoating where it was before, and then paint it back the body color glacier white. Any recommendations on products and techniques I should use? Thanks Last edited by samurai_k; 09-23-2019 at 05:49 AM.. |
