Windshield FRAME replacement
 

Hi All,

I have a 1991 C2 Cabriolet with rust all around the lower portion of the windshield as well as rust 6+ inches high on the drivers side of the windshield frame. I'm hoping someone can provide me with advise on what is involved in replacing the windshield frame. Is there welding involved ???etc...

Drilling out spots welds, screwing around with drip rail and installing new. Need a drill whichever spot weld bits you prefer, spot welder or at least mig. Also good to have basic body and sheet metal tools dollys hammer et. Not a Beginners job imho.

Lots of welding involved. Sounds like if that bad, you may have more rust under as well

Hope you get some good advise 91964 for your c2. This is no help now but its apparently a common problem. some say plugged sun roof rain channels...worth visiting when you are about done. Good luck. will watch for progress.

I bought a replacement windshield cowl from Restoration Design; it is part number PP250. I checked and I don't think our host sells it.

I am not a skilled body man nor can I weld. I was able to carefully drill out the old spot welds and remove the rusty piece. A friend did the basic welding of the new piece and I did the grinding, filling, prepping and painting. The part fit extremely well with a minimum of coaxing. I also had to hire an experienced windshield guy to install a new windshield.

I probably put 80 hours into the job. An experienced guy (or gal) who knew what they were doing could probably do the job in less than a quarter of that.

All said, I was very pleased how it turned out. Sorry for lack of pics; search cowl and you will find a thread from someone else who ald did it.

Well done Kerry. It may have take way longer, but it would have cost 10x, 100x, what you managed to do the job for.
