Dash repaint?
I am going to refresh my black dash board in my 1974 911. It has gotten some scratches around the switches, etc.
- Do I need to use 2k rattle can paint or is regular spray paint durable enough? - Should I go flat or satin? Thanks |
I have used duplicolor in the past, vinyl/ plastic paint. Works well but once you do your dash you’ll want to do the rest of the plastic and vinyl.

Sooo true, good that was the plan from the beginning!

We typically use SEM Hot Rod Black, but that is not a rattle can. They sell it as a system with activator and all. My opinion is it's worth buying a cheap paint gun and masking everything to use it. It's very durable and has the right finish.

Ooffenhausen, thanks for your reply. I have already gone ahead and used SEM black trim paint as recommended earlier. The results look great. I will have to see how durable it is in the long run.

Seems to be a post missing from this thread that had some other recommendations. Believe it was the first response to my post. Either that or I have been breathing too many paint fumes??

For refreshing your exterior design on the dashboard, a 2K rattle can is the better choice for durability, UV resistance, and a factory-like finish. Regular spray paint may not hold up well to wear and tear.
