I have some Porsche original touch up paint from 1986 and it looks fine; no lumps, flows well, and the mixer ball rattles. Does anyone have experience using paint that has been sitting around this long?
It is black if it matters.

Oly, you should be fine. do a 'sprayout' on something, like a piece of clean sheet metal to make sure it still sprays. Black pigment isn't real heavy so you shouldn't have much settling. One thing that can happen to old paint is it can get 'seeds'. That's where the paint will kick out and cause what looks like fine particles of dirt. It will have a uniform appearance if this is the case. If it sprays and looks ok once dry paint away!!
(give it a little bit more shake rattle-n-roll prior to using)

Mark,
Thanks for the post! I'm planning to apply it with a brush or toothpick or match, does that matter? If I do get the 'seeds', can I take them out with a sanding block (2000 grit) and rubbing compound?

Oh sorry I thought it was spray paint!! No it should not matter. Actually even if the paint is seedy you'll be putting it on so much heavier than with a spray gun you'll bury them in the paint film. but if some nubs show through, dirt for that matter yes you should be able to sand and compound out. Good luck
