Favorite filler??
Do you pros or gurus on here have a favorite filler for small blemishes or blending welded areas, say like when a turbo fender has been welded on?
What about for fairing out panels? Cheers

Some guys like to use duraglass on welded areas because it is moisture proof, I like metal glaze, that stuff is very strong, doesn't fill as much but it gets into little pinholes.

What about something light weight that sands easy for fairing panels? Would "metal glaze" be the ticket for that?

We use metal glaze as a finishing putty, it is not as easy to sand like they advertise, but it is good, and expensive, for my regular filler I use "everflex" or "Z grip" but really, everthing is made by ever coat.
What kind of primers are you guys using in your area?

I am really not sure what most shops are using, we are not VOC restricted just yet so I guess it is free game? What do you use?

I'm using Evercoat Rage on my project. Yellow color and VERY easy to sand. A bit pricey, but what isn't these days.

Evercoat "Rage" is what Ben (mb911) told me he uses too. I will try to find this tomorrow as my local supplier stocks Evercoat prodcuts.....

The other day I saw in a catalog 3 different kinds of Rage filler one was the regular then Gold and Xtreme, I wonder if there is any difference other the the price.
here in Los Angeles we have to use 2.1 VOC primers, at our shop we use PPG NCP 270. it good stuff, it will adhere to air if you try, but it is expensive and it will give you a nose bleed if not properly protected. I read about some guys using K2 primers or DP epoxy, those days are long gone for some of us.

rage gold is my preference as it does not pinhole easily. I always suggest when welding on a flare to check for pinholes with a light source with the lights off. Fix that seam seal, then undercoat prime and paint before filling on the top side then ther will be no moisture problems coming from underneath

I use 180/320/400 but I use buildable sandable in between 180 and 320. If you are a beginner with filler(mud) then you may get a bit sloppy and need to knock it down a bit with 80 but quickly switch over or you will have lots of scratches visable throught the top coat of paint

Jeff: Sanding fillers can be a little tricky and at times a little frustrading, as with everything, practice will make you better. Here is my advice, knock out the rough parts with 80 grit and then go to 150, you should be able to prime at this point. Primer prep is a different chapter.

No expert here BUT I am pretty good for an amateur. super special Joshua (me ) secret.....layers!I'll layer heavy and 60/80 then thin layer to skim a couple times and hit with the progressively finer paper. I use the matos brand BC its cheaper and the SAME IMHO as the expensive stuff (green in color)

How about a product called Half Time made by USC, some shops that I know tell me that it is real good and easy to use for the final coat of filler. I use the finish glaze from Wurth. finish it with 150 grit then prime.

Anyone use an epoxy based filler? In the marine industry they are the product of choice due to far less shrinkage (fully cured chemically after 7 days) and they are not effected by moisture.

I have used Super fil, its an ultra-lightweight epoxy filler from http://www.aircraftspruce.com/menus/cm/fillers.html used on aircraft, worked very well and is super lite.

It was try out Thursday, today I tried something called FUSION made by USC, it was good and very light, but it smelles kind of weird, has anybody try this product?
