68 911 Dash Labels
First, thanks to the major contributors here for the incredible amount of information and critiques they have presented. It has helped me considerably.
Now, I'm in the process of stripping the tub of my 68 911 Sporto. I've removed all the instruments from the dash but there is a round label behind the emergency flasher that is glued to the dash. I've tried to gently pry it off but it isn't moving. Finding a new one is probably going to be difficult since the part isn't listed in the PET. Any suggestions on how to make it turn loose? Also, the inside of the glass on the instruments is fogged. I'd like to clean them (just the glass, I'm not touching the dial faces) but haven't figured out how to open them up. I've tried mild force to no avail. Any suggestions here? Thanks again for all the help you guys give out!! It is appreciated.

For the label, have you tried a heat gun or hair dryer, slow heat and a plastic putty knife?
For the glass, it takes a lot of patience to remove the black ring. litghly peel it from the back, and to press it back, takes more patience. Welcome aboard and enjoy the differences of opinion.

Thanks Rudy, the heat gun worked great. Got the label off with minimal damage but destroyed one of my plastic putty knives.
![]() I'm not sure I want to try peeling open my instruments. I'm now considering sending them to a VDO repair shop since I won't be needing them for a while.

Good job Tony, those labels have been there for a long time, so sometimes they can be a little stubborn.
For instruments it is always best to send them to pro, we use North Hollywood speedo, they are good. Keep us updated, there are a few other guys with ongoing projects andwe can all benefit with an exchange of ideas.

Send your gauges to North Hollywood Speedo. They are fantastic. A complete rebuild will cost about $400, they can clean your glass for a lot less. I can't say enough about them.

Thanks to both of you guys. I'll contact North Hollywood and then package them up and send them off. There's no rush since I don't think I'll need them for about a year but I'd rather store them in good shape. The last time the car was running they all worked fine but the inside of the glass is pretty dirty and it looks like condensation inside the tach really made a mess.
