Wash for presanding/bodywork?

Whats good to use to remove any wax etc from the paint before I even start working on the car? I have heard that you can sand wax or finishes into the paint.

You heard correct, you can use some wax and grease remover sold at your local store, or at least, soap and water, I use dishwashing detergent.
