Seat pan replacement Part 1:

Thought I would post a seat pan replacement I did.

The car was a nice dry New Mexico car but when the sound deadening material was removed it revealed a rusted seat pan. Funny thing is the rust was only under the sound deadening. None existed beyond the material. Absolutely no rust around the window or on the rear deck. It's appears that the water may have gotten in the seat pan when the car was built and was sealed in by the deadening material. The only other scenerio that might explain the rust might be from driving in the rain with the top off (Targa).

First off. The rusted panel. Only a few wholes on the passenger side but the bottom was soft so I opted to replace the whole pan.

Next I parted off the bad pan.

It looks like there's rust beyond where I parted the pan but the metal beyond the cuts is solid. The glue that is used for the deadening material is the same color as rust so the picture can be deceiving

Now it's time to prep the replacement pan from an SC.

Drilling out spot welds:

Next up trimming the donor piece.

I decided to cut around the corners where the heater valves enter the longitudinals because I wanted to have access for applying seam sealer to the weld seam when I was done. That's why the top corners are cut down at an angle. Later I post a picture from the backside so you can see the heater valve area.
