Roof and cowl repairs
I have an '86 Carrera that is in need of rust repair. The lower corners of the windshield are starting to bubble on both sides with rust. The windshield will also need to be replaced due to storm damage. I also was interested in removing the sunroof and replacing it with a solid new section and removing the drip rail. I have seen this done but don't know what to expect in cost. How much more will the roof changes ad to the rust removal in labor? I got about $1,600 in insurance money for the repairs to the windshield.

Have a look at my flickr page...link is below. The front cowl isn't that difficult to replace. The roof replacement is possible, but i've not done it.
good luck. Helmethead

I will probably have the hood and fender done along with the top but should I just go ahead and do the whole car? The lower body is rusted through and needs rockers and the rear deck lid has some chips. The paint is not oxidized and most is still good.

If you have the money, I'd recommend going ahead and having all of the problem areas repaired. What color is the car?

I would like to fix the problems together. The car is white. Most is good except for rust near the lower windshield posts and rockers. Some scrapes on the left rear fender from the original owner. Would a new paint job require some paint removal? I was going to repaint the hood, top, rockers, left fender and some minor chips. I have had cars repainted without color match problems. I looked at your site and you were very through in paint removal and restoration but you had more rust and body damage..

A good shop can match paint and blend into existing panels; however, there will be evidence of respray if your car has developed a patina. My '68 has been roughly three colors (more in some places) and requires the equivalent a pick axe to get to the original Bahama Yellow, so I'm obviously repainting the entire car without pause.
