Is one paint lighter than another?
 

I am in the planning stages of a new paint job for my race car and after having it painted the first time I realized just how much weight a quality paint job added. I assume it is a combination of the primer and paint.

But are there lighter weight materials that can be used, are there paints with less pigments ie less density and thus lighter? Or is there a special line of light weight race paints available? Any information would be appreciated.

you can look up the msds sheets on any paint on the internet and find out the density of any of there products. Dupont imron used to be the lightest paint(avation), but I looked up and the deltron by PPG is pretty close. the difference between colors ranges between 9 to 12 pounds a gallon.
