tig plazma mma welder
Would this welder be a good method of attaching stock flares to a 72 Targa and repairing some rust on the front fenders?
or should i use a mig? Simadre Plasma Cutter Complete Package 50A 5200DX ![]()

Can you tig weld or weld in general? If not then pick up a Mig welder and practice. You dont want to learn how to weld by putting on a set of fenders. Tig is a much better way of attaching flares but lots do it with a Mig welder. For auto body work the Mig will do pretty much anything you ask of it and it a ton less forgiving. If you are set on a Tig I would pick up a "known quantity" welder either used or new as an investment vs a cheaper overseas inverter box. I have a tig and mig machine but the last set of flares I put on I used an oxy/act torch with very good results as I didnt have 220v avail at the time. Many ways to skin a cat, lol.

what about one of these that include all processes? (except for magnesium or aluminum tig welding)

Im sure it will work for you. I dont have any experience with Tweco but from what I have goggled they seem to be owned by Victor. Not sure how the parts or tech support is with them. What is the amperage on the machine min max? If you can get this for under $800-900 then it might be worth a look since you cant buy 2 new machines for that price. 2 or 3 in 1 machines tend to be mediocre at best when compared to single set up machines. For a hobbyist or starting out it works ... Im sure if you continue youll be upgrading later down the road. I have a 210amp millermatic which works very well for sheet metal to 3/8" no problem. The min turn down for this machine is about 30amps. I would see if they have a 90 day return policy and give it a try ... you really have nothing to lose. I would put it threw the paces and have some others (friends or local guys) who know how to weld give it a try then ask there advice. Also look on craigslist ... there are a ton of deals to be had for very nice used units.
